Just to play Devil's advocate, if we could look at the opposite side of the spectrum, I see a lot of bears fans are split on this. Some say he was a great coach who just never had a real QB. However, some say he was just flat out unimpressive and even go on to say that he was no better with the media than Schiano and couldn't gameplan well. What do WE think? I like the hire, but what concerns me is the GM. I'd like to think Angelo was moreso the reason they never "Went over" in ChiTown rather than Lovie...What say you? What do you think held him back and can he fix it here?
He's Schiano with a more likeable personality.
I think Angela played a huge part. I watched countless horrible drafts for the Bears over the years, horrible decisions like giving up a 2nd rounder for Gaines Adams, I think Lovie was a miracle worker to post as good of records as he did.
As I've said, his drafting wasn't all that great. His team just gradually went downhill. And, he never got a Qb; well, he had to trade for one. I don't know why he got fired his last season with Cutler. But, with Tedford in line, hopefully, the team's talent continues to stay on top.
Pretty much the only slam dunk pick was Matt Forte
I mean don't get me wrong, I think he'll do well. Just trying to get a discussion going as to if he can turn his career around ala Reid or if Bears fans know some things we don't. You know, not for nothing but that D was aging fast when he left, too.
He did succeed with the Bears.
Angelo mixed with Cutler getting hurt every year
Chicago fans grew tired of just missing the playoffs and not reaching that ultimate prize. Lovie is a very laid back guy. This is a fan base that considers Ditka a god. I always felt like they were a few savvy GM moves away from Super Bowl contention. But Angelo never came through. Also, the league was transitioning to an offense-oriented league, and the Bears had sunk all of their money into that dominant defense. They thought Cutler and Marshall would solve that, but they could never find the right coordinator. They drafted a gem in Greg Olsen, then hired an OC (Mike Martz) that had no plans for him whatsoever.
He did succeed with the Bears.
Well, I mean of course in terms of going all the way.His record is stellar, no doubt. However, there is a portion that thinks he could never "finish the job".
but you can see now that Angelo is gone, they are starting to have some pretty strong drafts. Jeffrey, Long, Bostic....
Angelo mixed with Cutler getting hurt every year
That and the offensive line was terrible for years in Chicago.
Yes. I think Trestman's offense had Cutler playing very well prior to getting hurt. My question is, can Lovie if necessary let Glennon go and find the best way to move on?With Bears fans, it seems they never understood why he stuck with Cutler. I just hope Lovie doesn't get too stubborn in how he does things.
Dude got fired for going 10-6 ..... that kind of record is regarded as 'magical' around here.
He had a better record with the bears his final year than Trestman had this year. Funny how the NFL works. If Bears would have had "average" 10-6 year this season they win their division hands down.
