drafting QBs to be back-up is something the Packers have done well with Rodgers and Love but they were also perennial playoff teams and had that luxury
one might say we are a perennial playoff team now but that included 3 years of having the GOAT at QB and the last 2 years we were a .500 squad.

That assumes that Trask wants to come back and that Trask is a fit for the new offense. I believe Trask is a good fit for the new offense but I am not so sure that Trask wants to re-sign.
I could get behind Spencer Rattler, he may fall right where we’d need someone that isn’t going to play for awhile.But I will say this based on Coen's offensive style Nix or Rattler might be in play.

Nix is accurate on the move and this is what Coen's offensive style is predicated upon. That is why Nix and Rattler can not be ruled out if they can move the pocket and also thrive in a motion based offensive system. Not to say Penix can not thrive in Coen's offensive system because he could straight up ball in this style of offense with 11 personnel emphasis.
But I have a feeling that Nix and Penix may be gobbled up pretty quickly at the top of the 2nd round by teams that do not take a QB in round 1. Penix might sneak into round 1 if a team loves him but more likely is a selection at the top of round 2 along with NiX.
McCarthy is going to find his way into the first round but how high is another question all together.
Still think we have too many other needs, so I wouldn’t be sad if we passed on a QB…unless it was a LOT later…but really, there aren’t a lot of diamonds that fall that far…mostly just coal.

Don't know about a 1st round grade, but I like him a lot more than Spencer.
