Texas Rangers take Russell Wilson in MLB draft. THAT Russell Wilson. The Washington Post By Cindy BorenDecember 12 at 11:33 pm Seahawks_49Ers_Football-00B50_Zpsfc3C04Df.jpgImagine this is a baseball. The Texas Rangers are. (Ben Margot / AP) Russell Wilson shows no signs of pulling a Michael Jordan and abandoning this football thing for a chance to play baseball, but you can’t blame the Texas Rangers — those cockeyed optimists in the rose-colored glasses — for taking a shot. The Rangers took the Seattle Seahawks’ quarterback in Major League Baseball’s Rule 5 draft today. Wilson, a second baseman, was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007 and, after opting to attend college, was taken in the fourth round by the Colorado Rockies in 2010. In two seasons with the Rockies, he hit .229 with five home runs and 19 stolen bases. Jon Morosi        ? @jonmorosi Russell Wilson was at work watching film on the Giants when his agent called with news of the Rangers pick -- at 6:15 am Seattle time.7:35 AM - 12 Dec 2013 Wilson, who also played college football at North Carolina State and Wisconsin, ended up focusing on football and was taken with the 75th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Ken Rosenthal        ? @Ken_Rosenthal Mark Rodgers, agent for Russell Wilson, says QB will want to be more than motivational speaker for #Rangers in spring training. 7:39 AM - 12 Dec 2013 from Bay Lake, FL, United States Ken Rosenthal        ? @Ken_Rosenthal Rodgers said, “Russell will want to take BP and ground balls. He loves baseball. This is 3d time he has been drafted.” Rule 5 pick for 12.5K“We scouted him in high school and in college at N.C. State,” Rangers Assistant General Manager A.J. Preller told the Dallas Morning News. “Obviously, he’s got bigger things going on, but we liked the player and the makeup and if he ever wants to get back to baseball, we’d like to give him the chance.” Evan Grant of the News points out that the Rangers now have the best quarterback in Arlington (oof) and adds that the Rangers forked over $12k for a speech. But they think it’s worth it. “Everything you see and read about him, we think he’d have a positive message for all our guys,” Preller said. “The make up and the way he goes about his business, to have him part of the organization is something we really like.”

No way he gives up football.  He looked great today, they spanked the G-men. I don't think the season can get over fast enough for Coughlin. Eli was tuuuuurible.

Now if he wins a Super Bowl, he very well might be tempted. He won't be able to run around an NFL gridiron nearly as long as he can between MLB bases...

Will he pull a Jordan? That depends on how much he's gambling on NFL games....

I have to agree with those that say he avoids hits pretty well.  I watched a bit of that game today,  and I don't think a G man laid a glove on him the whole game.
