Winstometer Week 9: Jameis Winston shapes up like Matt Ryan and Jim KellyTimes staff November 8, 2015 7:26pmMeter_Zpspjxh4Mv1.JpgBucs quarterback Jameis Winston (3) runs the ball on third down near the end zone in the second quarter. [LOREN ELLIOTT | Times]Marcus Mariota returned from injury with a four-touchdown game, while Jameis Winston had a solid but not spectacular performance. When the Bucs picked Winston No. 1 and Marcus Mariota went No. 2 to Tennessee, the Tampa Bay Times built a database of all first round quarterbacks since 1980.Each week we plug in the statistics and compare Winston and Mariota against the others at the same point in their rookie seasons. Because we've reached the midpoint in the season and some quarterbacks played significantly more than others in their rooke seasons, we have added a screen to assure that a quarterback has attempted at least 50 passes to show up on the list.Winston ranks eighth on the list and has a quarterback rating of 84.0, tucked right between Matt Ryan (85.4) and Jim Kelly (83.6) at the same point in their careers.Mariota remains a few ticks higher in fourth place with a rating of 101.8.The Tampa Bay Times created a database of all quarterbacks picked in the first round of the NFL draft since 1980. Each week, we compare Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota's cumulative performance against the others at the same point in their rookie seasons. As of midseason, we have incorporated a screen to assure that a quarterback has attempted a minimum of 50 passes to be included. Meter1_Zps55Vdej0N.pngMeter2_Zpsrplm5Dsb.png
