Weird takes.
"injuries don't matter"
The "best player " on offense is injured and we are AT BEST a .500 team
so what is the "11 wins or better" team record with Wirfs out?
Just to point out the lunacy, if you watch the playoff loss the Commanders stop our running game in part because Wirfs in losing his battles.

the most obnoxious trolls here - you know who you are - also claim to be the most football smart lol
and NO COINCIDENCE... Also the most vocal about the defense and its role in the playoff loss.
:-)
With the best LOT in the NFL being out for the first 4 games, I’m going with a realistic view of 2-2.
Hoping Charlie Heck can be at least as good as Skule was against Detroit last season…but not counting on it.
The game where Hutch got 5 sacks?

whats their record with Wirfs out?
not sure it's that bad but here's your chance to it
So, we’ve established that as long as we don’t face Aiden Hutchinson level talent, we have a 50/50 chance. With the best LOT in the NFL being out for the first 4 games, I’m going with a realistic view of 2-2.

Just watched some film on Heck from last season.
It was bad. Really bad.
I don't know. He had a brace in OTAs and Bowles said it was nothing to worry about - he'd be ready for training camp. So obviously they thought it would get better all by itself. Maybe they were using the power of positive thinking? Heck if you can put cancer in remission you sure should be able to heal a little old knee injury. It doesn't make sense. Certainly the Bucs wouldn't have hesitated to have Wirfs do the surgery if they thought he needed it, and yet they knew he was hurt. So it's a bit of a conundrum.Hate hearing bad news in July! Why was this not fixed sooner?!
Ugh
We're going from a premier tackle to a practice squad tackle.
This is bad... The defense will need to be solid the first 4 games.
This is why being loaded at the skill positions helps us immensely. I look at the Bengals, and how shitbox their Oline is, but with a less talented team at the skill positions, they sure do move the ball. Even with Wirfs out, we are better than Cincy. Still a top half of the league Oline.
Preface- Of course this isn't a Ryan Jensen situation. But Jensen was a fellow O-lineman (and freind of Wirfs I presume) on the Bucs with a knee issue. Out of desperation, Jensen tried stem cell therapy, because surgery would have been career ending. It was unsuccessful. Wirfs' injury of course isn't career ending, but I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that Wirfs tried stem cell therapy and that once again it didn't work. Wirfs had to try something to get his knee better. He's wearing a brace in OTAs and the therapy is nothing?
Whatever the whole story is we aren't getting it. Whatever they unsuccessfully tried, it cost Wirfs a month of the regular season.
As many have said here, injuries are part of the game. The difference in how teams respond to injuries is depth and coaching. The Lions somehow finished 15-2 last season despite their defense (and best defensive player) being decimated by injuries. The good news with this Wirfs injury is the Bucs have time to prepare for Wirfs' absence. If Heck is so bad, then coach him up or get someone who can perform better.
On a personal note, Hecks' dad Andy went to my high school in Fairfax, VA (W T Woodson). He was huge compared to all the other linemen, a man among boys. He went on to Notre Dame, and then played in the NFL for 11 years. He's currently the OL Coach for the Chiefs.
Heck won't be Wirfs, obviously, but I trust that he is serviceable. Carberry knows what he is doing, he won't let this linger with inept play.

Yeah, Skule had a rough day vs. Detroit. But he did improve a little after that.
That really bad part is Skule is a far better backup than Heck. Heck is not good.
