Who is available at DE in FA? I'd see the Bucs going that route first, before drafting a boom-or-bust guy in round one at DE.
Greg HardyJared AllenMichael JohnsonMichael BennettJulius Peppers (likely released)Lamarr HoustonBrian Orakpo
Lots of talent on that list. There are a few guys you could rent for a couple of years and others you can invest in for the long term. Many good options
I think Peppers and Allen would make nice two to three year rentals. Orakpo gets my vote for long term player.
He needs to go get Allen and then draft manziel.
I think if your long term, then you give Hardy what he wants, then your set for years (assuming he continues to play at a high level). Old man Allen is gonna want Hardy money for just 2 or 3 years left of production that wont even match Hardy's to start with. I think the same with peppers when it comes to Allen. The rest of them is a no, that's if your serious about your DE situation by pursuing FA. Just my opinion..

Agreed. You know Lovie scouted Orakpo when he came out. Wonder if if thought he was a good fit for his defense back then. If so, he could be our target

Don't see why he wouldn't fit. Didn't he play DE at Texas before he was in a stand up position?
He was a hand in the dirt DE at Texas.

Yes he did. The Bears didn't have a 1st rounder that year as they traded it as part of the Cutler deal (Bears would have had the #18 pick) . Orakpo slid to #13 in that draft and I just wonder if Lovie was thinking what could have been if he was in a position to move up for him. This was the year before they got Peppers so DE was a big need. I am just being speculative. If Lovie really liked him then, he may make a move now to get him
I like Orakpo as a buy-low candidate due to his injury and being on an awful defense this year. Easy to forget that he was a baller a couple years ago. And still young. Get him for multiple years at a reasonable rate.
Imagine if Bennett actually came back here and totally lit it up... what an indictment of the previous regime...I'm still of the mind we're going to get a vet - preferably Allen - in FA. And the cupboard's not bare when it comes to DE even though we got nil in terms of production this year. Strong chance Lovie determines that was a scheme/coaching thing and doesn't feel the need to press for a DE @ 7.

I forgot about him... he was totally overshadowed by the circus up here in DC. He actually played pretty well this year opposite Kerrigan; and that's with f'ed up defensive schemes by the mastermind Haslett. IMO he's a premier edge guy; we'd be absolutely deadly if he came here. Especially as part of a rotation in our heat??? It's giving me a little chub thinking about it, I won't lie...
I put money on CJ Mosley being the Bucs pick.
Barr is a bad fit for this defense so no. Clowney is the only guy who i would like. We would have to trade up to the no.5 spot if he falls that far otherwise Atlanta grabs him.If Oakland is picking QB they don't need to worry about Atlanta scooping up the QB they want. All speculation at this point. Personally i don't think he could possibly slip past no.4. He has more potential than anyone else in this draft. He is a once a decade DE prospect.

I'm thinking the same thing.
Talk about reaching! I wouldn't even entertain the thought of drafting him in the first.
