So reading these answers, do you all not realize the Bucs turned down a Hershel Walker type trade from the Eagles for the #1 pick?

What were the details of the proposed trade? I’m not talking about your rampant speculation, I’m asking for actual facts.
Also, it’s worth noting trading a #1 overall pick and potential franchise QB is more valuable than trading a RB. The HW trade was foolish on so many levels for the Vikes.
The Aguayo pick is up there for the worst IMO because of the trade up and the fact the rest of that draft class didn't pan out. Only R. Smith was a serviceable special teams player from that draft class. Winston, Smith, Marpet and Alexander were very cost effective playing on rookie contracts and helped make the team competitive in a hurry. Had the Bucs not botched the 2016 draft they would have competed a lot sooner. The 2014 and 2015 drafts come on the heels of the 2013 draft which is not a bad draft given that Glennon, Spence, Gholston provided valuable services. Revis trade was a stain but it wasn't as crippling as the 2016 draft (VH3, Spence, trade up + Aguayo). And the draft before 2013 you had Barron, Martin, David, Goode, and Tandy.
It took two drafts from the 2017 and 2018 to recover from the 2016 disaster.
The reason why people are concerned about the 2021 and 2022 draft class is that it looks eerily similar to the 2016 draft where a bunch of players were selected with limited upside or very niche roles. Spence a situation pass rusher, Aguayo a short distance kicker, VH3 unable to be a complete boundary CB, etc. Ironically the 2016 draft class featured a lot of projects and developmental prospects and only R. Smith emerged.
However that is the concern with the last two draft classes in that too many developmental players and not enough players that have shown pro potential.
Licht hit big with Wirfs and Winfield and since they his picks have been mostly awful.
Still time for some of them to develop and become consistent contributors but man...
Really bad.
And I'll keep beating the dead horse that it all started with drafting Trask.
JTS needs to produce this year
Hall needs to see the field and provide a lift in the run game
Goedeke seemed to get a little better toward the end but was mostly awful.
White needs to show us he's an RB1 and not a RBBC player.
Otton underwhelmed with some drops. Needs to show he can play all 4 downs.
Trask needs to beat out Baker in camp.
And of course, Licht needs to draft well this year. I'd like to see us trading back up into the 3rd with our late picks.
I think trask was a dumb pick at the time. We knew we had a short window with Brady and should have attempted to maximize it. But the guys listed are 2nd-3rd year guys. It would be great if they exploded immediately but hopefully they are players. They still have time.

well yeah. 90% of us knew it was a stupid pick when it happened. An additional 8% came around after seeing him remain the #3 in year 2. Another 1% will come on board after he loses out the starting job to a guy that has been on 4 teams in less than a year.
unfortunately the other 1% will think the pick was good long after Trask's playing career is over and claim he is a victim of poor coaching/bucs management of him.
As a Ducks fan I went through similar grief with Joey Harrington in Detroit.
I couldn't handle the fact that he just wasn't good in the NFL.
I learned my lesson knowing Mariota could flop and did.
Herbert I was skeptical of... and he ended up being the best so...
I listened to Joey Harrington's Ted Talk about dealing with failure and how it humbled it.
Anyway... the point is, that your college is your team and you wanna go to bat for your players. I can appreciate the loyalty.
But the reality is, we all have a bias.
And the Trask supporters are 99% Gator fans. Simple as that... they'll be crying foul for years to come.
Just like JC with Glennon
I think there is room for a few more percentage options in there. I thought it was a dumb pick at the time, but right now I’m pretty content with our QB room - from a realistic perspective. I’m a Gator fan but I certainly don’t think he’s been wronged. I think he could be a good QB, but I’m not expecting it. And for 4 mil I love mayfield. But I’m a fan. I can be optimistic during the offseason. Let’s just load up on the OL…for these QBs or for the next.
and other than the eyeball test, another factor is draft status
i guess i'm more in the, talent evaluators are getting better and more often than not, your TOP QB is going to be a first round pick. Yes, que the Tom Brady was a 6th rounder peanut galery, but im just saying why want a low risk, low reward type option as your QB of the future?
In todays NFL, in any order - Mahomes, Borrow, Allen, Herbert, Lawrence, Tu Tagovailo, Lamar Jackson, Aaron Rogers, Justin Fields, Daniel Jones, Jalen Hurts, Dak Prescott, Kyle Murray.
of the 13 listed, which many would argue are in the top 10 discussion, just Hurts and Prescott were not first round picks. Others in the discussion in the mid tier include Kirk Cousins, Geno Smith, Derek Carr, Brock Purdy but again, not are in anyone's top 8 discussion.
so my point is more of, while you can flame out with a first round pick, see Jameis and Josh Freeman; you also could strike gold in which we can see the success the Bucs had from 2020-2022, a franchise QB; something we will look back on and say "man we sure did take those 3 brady years for granted"
I agree. Swing early for a qb or just build a wall for them in the trenches
Just like JC with Glennon
What about me with Glennon?
1. Did he play well as a rookie? Yes. 60% completion. 19 TDs/9 INTs. We won some games and he played well in some losses. I thought he deserved to be the starter year 2.
2. Year 2 they hand the job to Josh McCown. McCown goes 1-10 as a starter. Again, where am I wrong? Glennon should have started and we should have never signed McCown.
3. Year 3 again they blow it. Eagles offer the farm for the #1 pick. Licht says no and drafted Winston. Winston obviously wasn't ready to start as a rookie, INTs every where. Winston playing early hurt his develop. He got into bad habits he never got out of. In his first 4 games he had 7 INTs and 3 fumbles. He started 2 games with pick 6's. Jacksonville Week 5 was the perfect time for him to come in.
It's not that I thought Glennon was that good. It's that he deserved to play over McCown and rookie Winston. And I was right.
Glennon was much worse than his numbers indicated.
McCown was an absolute joke, yes.
Winston had to start as the #1 pick.
None of these 3 qbs were any good.
But you're underselling how much you liked Glennon now... and for the record I tend to agree with a lot of what you say that is mocked for being a "red board gm". So I'm not trying to hate on you... but you had a crush on War Giraffe

Winston didn't have to start. That's BS. He was only 21 and only started for 2 years in college. They rushed his development for ignorant, selfish reasons.
I just want young players who show something to play over players who are clearly not the answer. Glennon got a raw deal by Licht and Lovie. I get made fun of for Luke McCown but he showed elite traits in 2007 and Garcia/Griese wrecked the 2008 season. After benching McCown pre-game in Atlanta (in a game they would have 1000000% won with him) the Bucs went 1-16 in their next 17 games. So again, what would have hurt to let young QBs with solid traits PLAY.
“Winston didn’t have to start ….”
pppffffffffftttt
Everything is a house of cards
The Bucs were NEVER going to trade the pick for Winston and as soon as Winston was drafted he was the starter. Starting him did not cause his lack of success in the NFL lol.
if you want to post as the pretend GM then you almost have to have a line up of players who are “wrongly” held back by the team. Miller, Glennon … and Winston for NOT being held back. Lmao. Cut Jensen …
it’s all detached from reality, which is shocking given that you used to be a real GM, right JC?
