Report: Potential ownership change could send Sean Payton packingIs Sean Payton's future in New Orleans up in the air currently? Joe Robbins / Getty ImagesNov 10, 2015 at 1:09p ETWhile Tom Benson remains the owner of the New Orleans Saints and has seemingly avoided any type of an ownership shift, that doesn't mean that things will remain that way.As Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reports, Benson's estranged daughter, Renee Benson, and her two children, Rita Benson LeBlanc and Ryan LeBlanc are both still pushing to state that Tom is no longer competent to rule over his estate. While that's all more personal and specifically about the Benson family, Robinson reports that a league source has stated that there could be quite a few firings if Renee Benson gets control over the team."If [Renee Benson] gets control of the team, a lot of people [in the franchise] are worried that she could fire everyone who has been loyal to Tom," the league source told Yahoo Sports. "They're waiting to see what happens.""Sean has some outs in his deal," the source said. "If there is an ownership change, he has an out. He has some other outs, too. There would be a lot of interest in him – maybe four or five other teams would be interested. … I don't think he's thinking about it right now. He's not pursuing anything. I think he wants to see what happens like everyone else. But considering everything, if I put a percentage on whether he'd be the Saints coach next year, I'd say [it's] 50-50."It's interesting to hear that this source believes that it's only a 50-50 shot that Payton remains as New Orleans' coach next season. Obviously only time will truly tell with this, but for now, Payton is still the lead man for the Saints.FL Look-ahead: With Dallas' hopes fleeting, will Jerry Jones turn sights toward Sean Payton?By Hays Carlyon Tue, Nov 10, 2015 @ 10:34 pm
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones knows Jason Garrett was dealt a tough hand, but could fold on him anyway. APDallas is done.At 2-6, the toe tag can be applied to the Cowboys season.Dallas was 2-0 when Tony Romo broke his collarbone. The Cowboys could be 2-7 when he is eligible to return from short-term injured reserve next week.Really, what Dallas does Sunday at Tampa Bay is irrelevant. The Cowboys, 12-4 last season, are finished.Dallas sits 2½ games behind the NFC East-leading New York Giants and is two games back of Philadelphia.Sure, one of those two could collapse in the second half, but it’s unlikely both will. Dallas also doesn’t have another game against the Giants or Eagles to aid in any potential slump. The Cowboys would likely need to finish 8-8 to have any hope of stealing the division, which is an easier path to the playoffs than earning a wild-card berth.Finishing 6-2 will be difficult. In addition to being sans Romo against the Buccaneers, Dallas has some tough games once he returns. The Cowboys host Carolina and the New York Jets, with trips to Green Bay and Buffalo. So, what will Jerry Jones do about this? Will the 73-year-old Jones have patience with coach Jason Garrett?Garrett didn’t need to go 3-3 without Romo, but was 1-5 asking too much? The sixth-year coach has amassed a mediocre 43-37 record and is 1-1 in the playoffs. He’s been with the Cowboys for nine seasons. Garrett's dismissal would seem a bit unfair and he just got a lucrative extension, but Jones has a unique perspective.Jones is fond of New Orleans coach Sean Payton, who worked with the Cowboys from 2003-05. Jones gave Payton a huge raise as an assistant after turning down the Oakland job in 2002.Payton could be ready to depart from New Orleans. The Saints have an uneasy ownership situation with Tom Benson and his family.Payton is 84-53 with the Saints, with a 6-4 playoff record. He also hoisted the Vince Lombardi Trophy after the 2009 season.Payton would be leaving a 36-year-old Drew Brees for a 35-year-old Tony Romo. However, he’d be inheriting arguably the best offensive line in football.Jones doesn’t have much time left. Mulligan seasons aren’t likely to sit well.Landing Payton would make the Cowboys NFC title favorites in 2016.link
