@biggs3535 why? There’s like 3 topics of legitimate conversation on this board.

Most are just name calling & people claiming they have huge penises.

Are the Bucs Super Bowl Contenders as is?

the way we looked vs the saints today I say yes.

especially if our defense stays healthy & gets to the qb and continues to force turnovers.

would Taylor upgrade our offense and rb room? Absolutely.

Give me any proven player over a draft pick that’s a complete crap shoot.

Especially seeing how we have wasted majority of our 2nd and 3rd round picks.

As good as Taylor is, running backs just don’t appear to be a wise financial investment

obviously Taylor would help us but I think the Bucs front office had one foot in, one foot out in terms of contending this year

they realize they have a talented roster and rolled the dice on baker mayfield at a cheap price and if didn’t work out, they figure ok get the salary cap right and try again in 2024. If not evident by all the undrafted rookies on the roster

now with Baker on pass for a 28-30 TD to 9 INT ratio, he’s looking at sizable contract extension to the likes of $35 million per year if he keeps it up.

plus we need to resign evans and Winfield and possibly White. Too many studs to maintain already

@badabingbucs good point.

we may need to franchise baker if we want to keep him beyond this year.

Unfortunately we aren’t in the cap position to sign him to anywhere near that.

mainly due to Brady’s contract & dead #.

The three wins the team has are against a collective of 3-9 football teams. I'm not complaining, as they are beating the teams they should beat.

But the Bucs have played one Superbowl contender this season. How did they look?

When you trade early draft picks for a RB that is looking for big contract, is your plan to let this RB walk or are you going to give him his big contract so he's happy? If you are going to give a RB a big contract, that's foolish. If you trading premium picks for a player that you are going to let walk after this season, that's foolish.  It's especially foolish when this team isn't one RB away from a Superbowl trophy.

are we superbowl contenders?  unlikely but again as i said before, we were maybe that in the 3 Brady years (even though year 3 turned sideways quickly) and for about a 5 year stretch 98-03, etc.

that doesn't mean we shouldn't try! But i agree, no to trading for Jon Taylor and double No for trading away Mike Evans.

to me there are 4 teams that are clearly better than the Bucs - 49ers, Eagles, Chiefs, and Buffalo. Those are your legit superbowl contenders.

you then have teams that are likely better than us as well in Miami and Dallas but hardly anyone would consider Superbowl favorites in their respective conferences.

so who are we muddied up with?  Baltimore, Jacksonville, Chargers, Lions, and Seahawks.

One can argue we are in the top 10 in power rankings were to be had this week so it's good news.

I dont think anyone here had us at 3-1 and while we beat struggling Bears/Vikings - the Saints 17 point road win was dominance over a divisional rival for first place in the division.  that was a heck of way to bounce back.

we need to get healthy, to hopefully see if Kancey didnt have a career ender with his calf and heck coudl be looking at 5-1 real soon with back to back home games with Lions and Falcons.

Yes there is no way the Bucs are going to pay Taylor what he wants. They have too many other mouths to feed.  Winfield, Wirfs, Evans, White.  There won't be room at the trough for a running back.  So he'd be a rental for the rest of the year. There's a reason the Colts aren't paying him.  It's probably because they project that his skills are going to be on the decline going forward.    And, like Mike Evans, this contract is for next year and on.  So, another year of getting older before the contract even starts.  There's a reason teams aren't paying running backs their second contract. They know what they're doing.

Taylor may not cost as much as some think.

Both contract & draft pick wise

Very disappointing year last year. Will largely depend on how he plays this year.

No rbs are getting what they expect. Taylor is no exception.

cant overpay based on a household name nor based on production from an MVP type season 2 years ago.

So you want to give up draft capital for a RB that is disgruntled with his current team for not giving him a big contract, and then you also want to not give him a big contract.

I can see you've thought this one through.

Taylor may not be worth what he thinks he is, but he thinks he's worth it. That means he's not got going to settle for bargain basement. What he wants to do is get to free agency and go to the highest bidder.  He doesn't want to tear an Achilles, ACL or MCL in the meantime.  Any sign of injury proneness is going to cost him a lot of money.  So, he's just trying to get through this year with minimal damage.  I don't blame him.  He's a good workhorse back and deserves a new contract, but it won't be the Bucs.
