2014 NFL Draft: Teddy Bridgewater Has Played Himself Out of Top 5 By Zachary Krueger March 19, 2014 9:12 am Bridgewater_Zps2E93Bad4.JpgQuarterback Teddy Bridgewater has had an interesting offseason as he prepares for May's NFL Draft. First he elected to not throw at the NFL Scouting Combine, which raised some cause for concern, but wasn't initially viewed as that big a deal.Bridgewater made the decision to forego throwing at the Combine and had decided that he would throw at his pro day. Unfortunately for Bridgewater, his pro day is over, and he has left scouts with much to be desired. Most of the passing portion of Bridgewater's pro day can be viewed here, in case you want to see what has analysts all abuzz.Bridgewater's performance was decribed my NFL Network's Mike Mayock as, "very average at best," according to Darin Gantt of ProFootballTalk.com.This could be a cause for concern, mostly due to the fact that it is often a less stressful environment than the NFL Scouting Combine. Athletes go into their pro days knowing most of the drills they are going to be running, what kind of routes they will be throwing and even what receivers they will be throwing to. In looking at the video link above, you can see that there are several lame duck throws from Bridgewater. The majority of his passes appeared to be anything but the tight spiral that scouts want to see in a quarterback. Furthermore, you can't overlook some of the passes he overthrew, especially when you consider how high Bridgewater could be drafted. The question now, following his pro day, is where does Bridgewater stand among NFL scouts? His body of work at Louisville certainly speaks for itself. With 9,817 career passing yards, and 72 passing touchdowns to just 24 interceptions, Bridgewater looked every bit like a pro quarterback with the Cardinals.Despite his on-field success in college, his decision to not perform at the Scouting Combine, and an average pro day could drop Bridgewater out of the top five. It's hard to imagine Bridgewater slipping past a quarterback-needy team like the Raiders at the fifth pick, but there are plenty of other great prospects in this draft. If the Texans make the decision to draft Blake Bortles, the next quarterback taken could be at third overall by the Jaguars. The St. Louis Rams have the second overall pick in the draft, but appear to be satisfied with another year of Sam Bradford at quarterback.Bridgewater's best chance at being selected in the top five could be with the Cleveland Browns. That being said, a good pro day by Johnny Manziel could solidify him as the second quarterback taken in the draft, and then other players like Jadeveon Clowney, Jake Mathews, Khalil Mack and Greg Robinson could realistically be taken in the top five. There is obviously no guarantee that Bridgewater will fall out of the top five, but it's definitely food for thought. Given his less than stellar offseason in preparation for the draft, and the amount of talent at other positons in the draft, Bridgewater no longer appears to be a top five lock. http://www.footballnation.com/content/2014-nfl-draft-teddy-bridgewater-has-played-himself-out-top-5/28941/
