If he was going to change his stripes he would have already. He is not a very good safety. At all. If we can trade him you do it in a heartbeat. If you can't you probably keep him because of the salary and you have enough other areas to work on that you don't need to create another hole just to have something to fill. Ultimately though, he can, and should, be replaced.

His contract and reputation as a supposed good safety will keep him around for at least another year, which is unfortunate because he is a liability in more ways than one. Dal mentioned that he was the Ahmad Brooks of that defense. That is absolutely true. He was a big hitter. That will get you on highlight reels, which helps to camouflage all of the inefficiencies in ones game. He was a product of having 4 all pros in front of him as well as excellent defensive coordination and solid players in the secondary on his right and left. If you could get at least a 3rd or 4th, then a trade would be worth it, but no one is going to give that and take on the salary of one of the more overrated and overpaid players in the league.
