Now he’s also drawing a “ton” of interest from the Detroit Lions, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.Detroit has a significant lack of receiver talent behind Megatron, but Watkins is very unlikely to fall to No. 10 with the St. Louis Rams (No.2), Cleveland Browns (No. 4), Oakland Raiders (No. 5), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (No. 7) and Buffalo Bills (No. 9) all likely interested in Watkins and expected to take a receiver fairly early in the 2014 NFL Draft.This means that the Lions would have to trade up to land the draft’s top wide receiver.General Manager Martin Mayhew and head coach Jim Caldwell were both on hand for Watkins’ pro day and “the primary focus of the Lions’ brass is undoubtedly wide receiver Sammy Watkins,” per MLive.com.Monday Morning Quarterback’s Peter King expects Watkins to burst onto the scene in his rookie campaign.“Watching Watkins run and catch, I’ll be surprised if he’s not a 1,000-yard player as a rookie, even if he goes to a team with an iffy quarterback situation,” King wrote. “So fluid, so fast, so broad-shouldered.”NFL Network’s Mike Mayock also calls Watkins one of the ”best wide receivers he’s seen on tape in the last decade.”With big names like A.J. Green, Dez Bryant, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald and Julio Jones drafted in the last decade that puts Watkins among some highly elite company.Watkins possesses a stellar combination of size, speed, explosion and ability to win at every level of the field. It’s worth noting that if Watkins is gone at No. 10 and Detroit doesn’t trade up to get him, then Texas A&M WR Mike Evans could also be a very good option.Detroit is also expected to look at upgrading the secondary in the first round.
