Glennon big part of Bucs' problems Tom Jones, Times Sports Columnist? ? December 22, 2013 11:26pmGlennon_Zpsb804Fac6.Jpg Biggest question The Bucs have one week left in the season, which means we have only one more chance to see Mike Glennon and determine if he is the quarterback of the future. I realize this offense has been beaten up by injuries and there are backups all over the place, but this unit is so pathetic that it's hard to throw any confidence behind Glennon. Is he a rookie? Yes. Will he get better with time? Maybe a little. Are all of the offensive woes his fault? No. But he's a big part of the offense's ineffectiveness. Here's the real question: Should the Bucs stick with Glennon after this season? I wouldn't. At the very least, the Bucs need to bring in someone, either a first-round pick or a proven veteran at quarterback who can start right away. Dumbest play You have to wonder if Bucs safety Dashon Goldson simply isn't a bright person. How else can you explain picking up personal foul penalties for the same infraction over and over and over again? He has already racked up $400,000 in fines and was suspended a game for repeated shots to the head. He picked up another one of those Sunday. Maybe all of those hits to the head are knocking him silly. If I was the NFL, I would suspend him again because he just doesn't get it. Just wondering Have you ever seen a team have so many second and longs as the Bucs? And have you ever seen a team so consistently run the ball on those second and longs? You get the feeling the Bucs have used this entire season to set up a throw on second and long in next week's season finale. Worst line At one point during the broadcast, Fox announcer Thom Brennaman said, "We have a good one here in St. Louis." Brennaman is an excellent announcer, but there was nothing good about this game. Close? Yeah. Good? No way. Three things that popped into my head 1. Late hits. Lots of smack talk. Shoving the ball in the face of the opponent. The Rams act pretty big and bad for a team that is below .500. If you're a lousy team with a coach who is on the competition committee, the least you can do is play with a little class. 2. This just in: The Rams just recorded another sack. Yikes, left tackle Donald Penn and the Bucs offensive line were absolutely abused by St. Louis and defensive end Robert Quinn. The Rams had seven sacks, and Quinn had three of them to set the Rams record with 18. 3. The Bucs offense is crummy, but the organization is certainly getting its money's worth from Vincent Jackson. The receiver's about the only threat to defenses, yet he still manages to get open and make plays. Final thought Thank goodness we only have to sit through one more of these dumpster fires.

Goldson might be dumb, I think so, but he is also a one trick pony. Those big hits are all he has so he has to keep doing them. I thought spending $8m on him was a stupid idea but the more I see of him the more I wonder if spending a roster spot on him is stupid.

Heard it during the broadcast, we attempted the 5th most 3rd and long in the league. That's bad for a team that tries to run the ball so much on eary downs

The Buccaneers had 19 second downs in this game.  They threw the ball 12 times and ran it 7 times.Stop the insanity.

1) That Gholdson hit was literally perfect form. He had his eyes up and wrapped up and drove through. Completely different than the spearing crap James Harrison and Brandon Merriweather have done and what Hawk has done in the past. Also for every 15 yarder he picks up, probably at least 1 or 2 throws over the middle that don't even get attempted.2) I hope Sullivan goes to army in the worst way

Run on 1st, gain nothing or lose yards and it all but guarantees a pass on 2nd.

This.I've been able to find justification or reasoning in a lot of the stupid stuff we have done over the course of the season (and by that I mean just making a ridiculous argument to SOMEHOW explain why we do the stupid things we do).The second and long run play EVERY series, however... I CANNOT ... absolutely CANNOT find any good or logical reason to explain why we do this every series, every game. It's a big, big, big, big reason for why our offense sucks so hard, and all it would take is throwing some short to intermediate crossing routes on a second and long to VASTLY improve the efficiency of this offense. It is so incredibly obvious, yet not once all year have we made that adjustment. I don't get it and like you said, it proves how STUBBORN this coaching staff is.

How about a Sports Writer that has the balls to call the NFL out on their insane Defenseless Receiver Rule or the QB can't be touched rule. Case and Point. Adrian Clayborn was called on a roughing the passer penalty on the Rams 1st drive after the Bucs scored to go up 7-0. Replays clearly showed that Clayborn slowed and NEVER made contact with anything more than a shoulder on the Rams QB. That would have been a 3 and out for the Bucs. Instead, the Rams march down the field and score. You can't play the NFL brand of football as fast as it is and not have incidental contact with the helmet. These penalties are ruining the game. If it's a clearly intentional hit then throw the flag. If it's incidental contact then let the league rule on the hit after the game.

http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/0ap2000000152145/Crown-of-the-helmet-hit-rule-explained Has there been a call against an offensive player?  Not that I know of... but the first one will likely be against a Buc.

At 4-12, everyone's intelligence should be questioned, especially the coach.

They have talked to him numerous times, so I don't know how you can blame them.  That is the dudes game, and it appears he can not play any other way. He is closing in on almost half a million dollars in fines. It that doesn't get his attention, I don't think anything will. Some of the calls against him have been questionable, but still.  Gotta adapt to today's NFL. That call against the Niners Monday night was BS,  The one where Stephen Jackson got laid out. Harbough went ballistic, and I can't say I blame him.
