Per Schefter-
“Buccaneers CB Zyon McCollum is seeking a contract extension, and had his agent Drew Rosenhaus in Tampa today to meet with team officials.”
I don't blame him. He had a pretty good year last season.
According to Bowles he still has to win the starting job, which is BS but it still shows he's got something to prove. I wonder if Rosenhaus will play ball with Licht and Greenberg, because the Bucs have had somewhat team freindly deals. For example Wirfs got his record deal, but it's actually team freindly when you get into the details - it's structured to allow for future restructures. McCollum is a good player, but we have two CBs drafted on Day 2 this year. The franchise tag will be over $20 mil for a CB, but that could be the way things go. You have team control of McCollum for two more years if you use the tag and at that point you didn't draft guys on Day 2 to be backups. McCollum is valuable, but he's not an Antoine Winfield cornerstone player.Per Schefter-

I doubt McCollum gets his extension any time soon, but I hope I'm wrong. I'll be glad to see him in the fold if that happens.
I think he was on ESPN's list early on. this year. Goedeke too

You knew it was coming when he hired Drew.

I'm kinda surprised he didn't hold-out, on Drew's advice. Good for him for showing up and playing out his contract.

Likewise.
Glad he showed up and ready to work.
I'm curious what he's expecting
And what it would mean for Dean
And what it would mean for Dean
well, for this year, with the addition of Morrison and Parrish and with Dean in the fold; certainly not a priority
i mean, do you really throw $20M a year at a guy who started 1 season and ranked 54th best CB last year?
personally, i'd like to see how Zyon does this year. Most definitely though if they extend him, likely means Dean is cut next year. i dont see a situation where both are on the team in 2026, given the higher draft selections this year.
Mccollum was a bit overhyped last season, I don't think he was a top 10 corner as some may have touted still gave up his fair share of plays, not enough impact plays, but had sticky coverage.
That says Ej biggers than lets say a christian gonzalez. Let's see him make more picks and less mistake, we need more. I'm sure Mccollum is a very nice guy though and good with the media.

yeah it all depends what hes asking for but if hes seeking a Carlton Davis or Jamal Dean type deal; i'm sorry but 1 year, being ranked #54; rather spend that money elsewhere.and that's without knowing if Morrison or Parrish step up.
now if Zyon performs well this year, then let's talk, but a bit premature to extend him after 1 year as a starter where he was good but not great.
The Bucs have a lot of positives going for them in the DB player motivation category. Dean (and to a lesser extent Zyon) playing for a contract with real competition.
far cry from last year.
Speaking of CB’s, Morrison suffered a tweaked hammy yesterday.

That sounds like an excuse-in-waiting for another less-than-stellar defensive performance in 2025.
