Guten tag, Bucs fans.
That means “good day” in German.
Why is that important to know? Because the Bucs might be playing a game in Germany during the 2022 regular season.
In fact, one of Tampa Bay’s nine home games might be in Germany, which was named as the Bucs’ international home market by the NFL. On Wednesday the NFL announced that four regular season games will be played in Germany for the first time over the course of four years from 2022-25, as the league looks to expand its brand internationally.
According to Ari Meirov, two games will be played in Munich, including the first one next year, and two will be played in Frankfurt during that four-year span.

NBC Sports’ Peter King recently reported that the Bucs could be in line to play in Germany in 2022.
“No guarantee, but I can see the Bucs being the hosts for the first real NFL game on German soil this fall,” King said.
Bucs owner and co-chairman Joel Glazer happens to be the chairman of the NFL’s International Committee. That could give Tampa Bay a leg up on the other teams to host Germany’s first ever NFL regular season game.
“We are thrilled to embrace Germany as our international home market and look forward to strengthening our presence in a part of the world that is already home to many Buccaneers fans,” said Glazer. “We will move quickly to engage with our German fans and are excited about the many opportunities to help grow our game and expand our existing relationships throughout Germany over the coming years.”
Glazer believes the new International Home Marketing Areas will help new and existing fans in every market connect with the game. The International Committee ratified the IHMA plan in December, granting teams access to markets in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, German, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.
“Today’s announcement is a significant milestone in our efforts to broaden the NFL’s global reach by building long-term relationships with these international markets that will play a large role in the continued growth and expansion of our sport for years to come,” said Glazer. “Much of our league success is rooted in the strong connection that our individual teams have built with their fans, and this initiative creates many more avenues for engaging and energizing our international fanbase.”
Should the Bucs indeed host a game in Germany in 2022 it would be the fourth international game in franchise history. Tampa Bay is currently 0-3 in three games in London. The Bucs lost to the Patriots, 35-7, in 2009 then fell to the Bears, 24-18, in 2011. Tampa Bay hosted Carolina in London in 2019 and lost, 37-26.
