Read-Option: SAM I am
Earlier this week I talked about some of the areas of the team the Buccaneers chose to neglect this offseason for a number of different reasons – though I’ll say again that I think they handled their offseason very, very well.
One of those areas the team could have stood to improve upon more than they did was, in fact, the SAM linebacker position. Smith turned 35 this year, and has had a long NFL career, so it made sense that they did not bring him back. But, after seeing Beckwith’s film in-depth and knowing that Bond is a little undersized and will be basically a first-year player himself, things get a bit more shaky.
What do you guys think?
What do you think of Bond, Beckwith and the decision to leave that part of the roster the way it is with two young, unproven players competing to replace Smith? Do you think it’s fine because they added so much size to the defensive line anyways? Or is this an area of concern for you?
Let’s here your thoughts on the Buccaneers SAM linebacker position going into camp, and how you hope it shapes out.
