READ-OPTION: NFL DRAFT EDITION
In my first ever Cover 3 column, the read option I chose was a pick-2 of two draft hauls where readers had to chose which one they would rather see the Buccaneers take.
Well, the read-option NFL Draft edition is back!
I loved the feedback I got from you guys on the last read-option we did like this, and with it officially being draft season, I’ll try to do one of these at least once a month in my Cover 3 columns.
Let’s take a look at the choices this week:
Choice A:
Round | Player | Position | School
1 | OJ Howard | TE | Alabama | |
2 | Obi Melifonwu | S | UConn | |
3 | Tanoh Kpassagnon | DE | Villanova |
If you like size, this draft class is for you. In it, the Buccaneers would acquire 6-foot-5 O.J. Howard, the heavily discussed and written-about tight end from Alabama, the 6-foot-4 safety that we just broke down, Obi Melifonwu, and the 6-foot-7 pass rusher from the Villanova, Tanoh Kpassagnon.

I almost wish Howard had a more unique name, because that would totally fit into this bunch to go along with size – now that I think of it, I could have gone with Miami’s David Njoku.
This draft haul fills three needs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have, but prioritizes them in certain ways. Do you like this haul? Or perhaps you’d enjoy a more aggressive one.
Choice B:
Round | Player | Position | School
1
(TRADE UP) |
Jamal Adams | SS | LSU | |
2 | (Traded Away) | |||
3 | Amarah Darboh | WR | Michigan |
The second choice also features the safety position, and gives Tampa Bay the top strong safety in this class, but in it, I assume that Adams has fallen right at or just outside the Top 10, and the Bucs would have to give up their first, second and fourth round pick to make the jump for such a player.
This leaves the second round empty, and the third round pick to be used on at least one weapon for Jameis Winston, Michigan’s Amara Darboh. Darboh had a nice Senior Bowl week and look very natural in pass catching drills, as well as 1-on-1’s. He’s not the most athletic receiver, but he would be an upgrade from the team’s current No. 2, special teams specialist, Russell Shepard.
So which draft haul do you like best? Everyone loves Jamal Adams, but is getting him worth not picking two extra times in such a stacked defensive class? Adams would be an immediate starter for years to come, but it’s up to you whether or not he’s worth that price.
So, what will it be?
