Bucs legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp has never stopped from saying what’s on his mind or calling out individuals, especially when it comes to matters of his beloved Buccaneers. Sapp has been critical of inside linebacker Devin White before, infamously showcasing his struggles and loafs against the Ravens last season on Thursday Night Football.

Well, Sapp was at it again this week, highlighting a down moment from the inside linebacker and team captain after the Bucs allowed 39 points in Week 9.

Most Tampa Bay fans have turned the page and are ready to focus on the Titans game, but when a legend of the Bucs talks about a current player, it should be addressed. He calls these film sessions #SappInTheLab.

Warren Sapp was watching the film of the Bucs vs. Texans game and took to his Instagram account to talk about a play. The Hall of Famer pointed out a run play in which White wasn’t able to get off of a block from a wide receiver, partially because he didn’t see him coming. Had this been the NFL of a decade ago, White gets blown up on the spot.

Ironically enough, Lavonte David was the backside linebacker on this snap and was able to bring the running back down for a tackle for loss. Sapp joked that the block that White got was “a little kiss” because that’s all you can do in today’s game.

“This right here would’ve been Hines Ward, and this right here would’ve been called ‘Jacked up!'” Sapp said with laugh. “That’s the difference in our game. You get a little kiss. The linebacker don’t see it. What are you doing, son? Good God almighty. Whenever they ask you the difference between our game and theirs, this play right here.

“Can y’all imagine Hines Ward coming around here like that? Oh my goodness! Larry Fitzgerald, Cris Carter, T.O (Terrell Owens), oh my goodness! C’mon 4-5 (Devin White). It’s cocked.”

Bad Timing For The Bucs And Devin White

The Bucs thought though would be getting the best of Devin White this season considering he requested a trade in the offseason over Tampa Bay’s instance that he play on his fifth-year option after the team declined to sign him to a lucrative contract extension before training camp. White wants to get paid next year as much as $18-$20 million per year because he thinks he’s better than he actually is.

After a good start in the first two games, White has slowed down quickly, making a number of mistakes without many splash plays to make up for it.

On Wednesday’s Pewter Report Podcast, Scott Reynolds said he’d be willing to bet his house and all of his possessions that Devin White isn’t back with the Bucs next season.

Sapp’s video, which points out White’s soft play, doesn’t help his case, either.

Between Lavonte David and White, it’s obvious that the elder statesman has been the better player this season among the two. Each player is a free agent after the season and you can argue that David is more deserving of getting a deal next season ahead of White. David (78) has 20 more tackles than White (58) does this year, as well as having more tackles for loss and sacks.

It’s doubtful the Bucs re-sign White in the offseason, and the team has far more free agent priorities to address, including the likes of left tackle Tristan Wirfs, safety Antoine Winfield Jr., wide receiver Mike Evans and others.

White will have another chance to earn his money with a better performance this Sunday against the Titans.

And potentially get into Sapp’s good graces, too.
