Former Bucs wide receiver Breshad Perriman has found a new team and could end up playing against his old team this year. Perriman is signing with the Indianapolis Colts, per NFL reporter Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2. In Week 12 the Bucs are on the road to face the Colts in late November and could face their former receiver if he makes the 53-man roster.

Breshad Perriman’s Second Time With Bucs

Breshad Perriman spent the last two seasons with Tampa Bay in his second stint with the team. He played for Tampa Bay previously at the end of the 2019 season. In his second go-around, Perriman played in a total of 17 games in those two years, recording 277 receiving yards on 20 catches and two touchdowns.

He was originally brought in to be a veteran presence and an insurance policy at wide receiver to an already stacked room in 2021. Perriman had a similar role in 2022 but with more playing time, seeing action in 11 games compared to six games the year before. When put into elevated roles due to injuries to other players, Perriman didn’t provide much of a relief to keep the offense afloat.

Memorable Touchdowns

With that said, Breshad Perriman made the most of the two touchdowns he scored as they came up in huge moments. The first one came on a thrilling walk-off touchdown in overtime during the 2021 season as the Bucs defeated the Buffalo Bills, 33-27. The Bucs squandered a 17-point lead at the half, only for Tampa Bay’s defense to get the first stop in overtime. Seven plays later, Perriman had a 58-yard catch-and-run touchdown.

The next highlight touchdown for him came in Week 2 of the 2022 season when the Bucs were playing against their heated NFC South rival in New Orleans. This was a slugfest of a game, tied at 3-3 going into the fourth quarter. That’s when Perriman made a great 28-yard touchdown catch in the end zone on the throw from Tom Brady with 7:41 remaining to give Tampa Bay a 10-3 lead.

Mike Edwards had a pick-six off Jameis Winston on the following drive to extend the Bucs’ lead to 17-3 and they eventually went on to win, 20-10.

Bucs Getting Younger At WR

Breshad Perriman had brief moments of dramatics over those two seasons. But with a new regime on offense with Dave Canales as offensive coordinator, the Bucs were going in a new direction this offseason. Perriman wasn’t expected to be re-signed and neither was Scotty Miller, who signed with the Falcons earlier this offeseason.

The Bucs have an influx of youth at wide receiver after Mike Evans, Chris Godwin and Russell Gage on the depth chart. We’ll see who makes the 53-man roster and practice squad, but Tampa Bay has undrafted rookie free agents from 2021 Deven Thompkins and Kaylon Geiger fighting to make this team.

This year in 2022, the Bucs drafted wide receiver Trey Palmer in the sixth round, and also have promising undrafted free agents Kade Warner and Rakim Jarrett that have an opportunity to make it. This gives the Bucs a different look on offense, but one that is probably better for their future plans.
