It hasn’t taken long for Leonard Fournette to enjoy his surroundings since joining the Bucs. Fournette felt like he had to carry the load for the entire offense when he was with the Jaguars, but now he’s just another important another piece to the Bucs offensive puzzle.

In three years in Jacksonville he played with quarterbacks such as Blake Bortles, Chad Henne, Cody Kessler, Nick Foles and Garner Minshew II. In Tampa, he’s getting the cream of the crop with Tom Brady.

“For the first time in my life I really have a quarterback, so that’s an eye opener for me,” Fournette said. “Not a lot of pressure is going to come on me, I guess there’s going to be with me and him and a lot of other guys on the offense. I’m happy to be back there with the greatest that’s played this game, and I get to learn from him too. My first two days here we were sitting and talking about the defenses, what he expects, what I expect from him, our expectations because it’s high right now. We have to start with each other on the team, to understand each other and get to up better communication with each other before anything.”

Fournette comes to a Bucs team that is the most talented offense that he’s played for in his young three-year career, and it was one of the factors that enticed him to sign here.

“I just think me coming to Tampa made perfect sense,” Fournette said. “I feel like they had all the keys that they needed and vice versa. I can help the team out and also they can help me, I think it’s probably one of my first seasons running in probably a six-man box, which is a small part on me. I made sure all that was in consideration of me coming here, and the coaching staff are great guys. Some of my coaches knew them too, it’s a perfect fit for me.”

The Jaguars didn’t have a lot of weapons to compliment Fournette, and the former LSU standout dealt with stacked boxes, more often than not. Coming to the Bucs opened up a new opportunity where there’s high-level players at each position. No matter where you go, a playmaker is getting the ball.

“I think it’s great,” Fournette said. “Especially when we have a lot of guys like Mike [Evans] Chris [Godwin], Gronk, Tom [Brady], and the O-line that we can spread the ball to guys like that and it’s just not you. When the defense game plans, they have to game plan against eight guys, not just one, and I think that opens up a variety of things for a lot of guys on our team on the offensive side of the ball.”

Another new situation that Fournette will see this year is that he’ll be splitting his carries in the backfield. Bruce Arians has been on a record that Ronald Jones is still the number one guy with each running back playing their own role. Fournette is welcoming the change as he works along side a talented running back room.

“We have guys, Shady (LeSean McCoy), RoJo (Ronald Jones II), other guys that have been out there,” Fournette said. “I’m comfortable with my role right now. I don’t have to get beat up every week, the split carries is gonna help our bodies at the end of the year when we’re trying to make that run for the playoffs or whatever the case may be, so I’ m fine with my role right now. Everything’s gonna take care of itself. My job is to come out and compete the best I can, get in the play book, understand what they want from me, and the rest will take care of itself.”
