Thursdays Are For The Offense.
That’s how that saying goes, right?
Well, even if it’s not a thing, we can make it one, as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ offensive coordinator and starting quarterback were at the podium before practice on Thursday.
First up was OC Tod Monken.

We have to admit, Monken was asked some pretty tough questions today.
It started with an overall assessment of where his quarterbacks are, and what life is going to be like with Fitzpatrick as the main man going forward, at least for this week.
Monken said that the main reason for the switch was the turnovers. He said that they simply have to stop turning the ball over, and that not all of that is on Winston, either.

Monken was asked a few questions later whether or not he believed Winston could ever change, as the narrative of him coming into the league was his turnover problem and here still four years in he hasn’t gotten over it.
Monken said that of course he believes Winston can change, because once you believe you can’t help a player, you shouldn’t be coaching anymore.

After Monken, Ryan Fitzpatrick himself took to the podium.
Fitzpatrick’s time talking to the media is usually a fun one, not just because he’s won as the starting quarterback, but because you can genuinely tell the appreciation he has for this chance to be able to play the game just a little longer.
Fitzpatrick said he knows his leash as a starter is only as long as he is good, and that it’s a performance-based business — himself included.

Back in the locker room, Winston made himself available to talk, too.
Winston was asked if he’s ever been benched before in his life as a quarterback and he said no. But, he said all this is humbling and something that he has to take, work through and get better.

After practice, Koetter was asked a little more about his starting quarterback this week and said that experience is key for him in many ways. It allows them to have some flexibility, especially in what is ultimately executed.
One more day of practice before it’s off to Carolina this weekend. Stay tuned!
