The details surrounding Bucs safety Jordan Whitehead’s car accident and the injury he sustained have been hard to come by since Saturday’s wreck, which caused to be placed on the team’s Non-Football Injury List.
Until now.
Fox NFC South Sports reporter Greg Auman is reporting that Whitehead suffered a cervical fracture in his neck due to the accident, and that he was the cause of the vehicle crash.
Bucs safety Jordan Whitehead has been cited for careless driving in the two-car accident Saturday morning that caused injuries that ended his season. Whitehead was driving a Corvette to the Bucs facility around 9:30 a.m. and, per Tampa police, "crashed into a GMC pickup truck" as…

Auman reported on his X account that “Whitehead was driving a Corvette to the Bucs facility around 9:30 a.m. and, per Tampa police, ‘crashed into a GMC pickup truck’ as he turned at Dale Mabry and MLK. The other driver was taken to the hospital with ‘non-life-threatening injuries.’ Police estimated the damage from the accident at $90,000. The citation carries a $163 fine and does not require a court appearance.”

Because of the neck injury he sustained in Saturday’s vehicle crash, Tampa Bay safety Jordan Whitehead is out for the year. Even if Tampa Bay was to make this year’s Super Bowl Whitehead would not be healed in time to participate a source told Pewter Report.
That source also said that Whitehead’s injury likely wasn’t career-ending but that it was too soon to tell right now.
Tampa Bay head coach Todd Bowles addressed Whitehead’s situation following the team’s 27-19 win over New Orleans on Sunday in a victory that clinched the team’s fourth consecutive NFC South division title.
“It was tough, because Jordan, ever since I’ve been here, the six years I’ve been here, he’s never been late,” Bowles said. “He’s never been in any trouble; he’s a model citizen. He’s the guy who helps everybody else, and it was very unfortunate for that to happen. We wish all the parties involved get well (and) get well fast.

“It was kind of a reality shock for us of how some things can be taken away from you at a moment’s notice. We discussed it (Saturday) night in a meeting. We talked about it. When you love somebody, they’re going to make a mistake, and you have to understand that and you have to love them anyway. He would’ve played for us, and we’re going to play for him.”
Whitehead, who helped the team win Super Bowl LV in 2020, was re-signed by Tampa Bay after two years with the New York Jets. Whitehead inked a two-year deal worth $9 million in the offseason, but he’s not made the impact the team hoped for upon his return.
Whitehead has been one of the lowest-graded defenders in Tampa Bay, according to Pro Football Focus. In the 12 games he started for the team this season, Whitehead had a 58 overall PFF grade and a 53.5 coverage grade. He gave up two touchdowns and did not record an interception. He finished his 2024 season with 74 tackles and three pass breakups and missed four games due to a pectoral strain and the season finale due to Saturday’s accident.
