Despite an early deficit in San Francisco, one aided by an ill-advised interception and a failed fourth-down conversion, the Bucs stayed true to their game plan of running the ball against the NFL’s 32nd ranked run defense.

Pounding the rock proved to be a good strategy as Tampa Bay, behind Jacquizz Rodgers and Peyton Barber, piled 250 yards on the ground and opened up the passing game in the process. The beneficiary was Mike Evans, who caught eight of Jameis Winston’s 21 completions for 96 yards and two touchdowns.

Improvising to get open and converting clutch third downs, the third-year receiver had a field day out west. Sunday was Evans’ third career two-touchdown performance and first since 2014, where he accomplished the feat in Washington and Detroit.

Through six games, Evans is on pace for 194 receptions for 1,453 yards and 16 touchdowns. And for his effort last Sunday, he’s this week’s Just Grillin Pewter Player of the Week and will receive a $50 gift certificate to Just Grillin in Carrollwood.
