UPDATED 1:10 p.m. ET – Bucs wide receiver Mike Evans will miss some time due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Sunday's 29-27 win over the New York Jets. Evans left the game in the fourth quarter of the team's come-from-behind win and was visibly upset, as he missed some time last year – and throughout his career – due to hamstring injuries.

Evans had an MRI done on Tuesday and the results were a mix of good and bad news. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the star Bucs receiver will be out for Sunday's game against the Eagles and will miss multiple weeks. That's the bad news.

Rapoport reported that the MRI showed that Evans' injured hamstring isn't as severe as it was last year when he had to miss three games due to a hamstring tear. That meant there would be a chance that Evans could return to action versus San Francisco in Week 6 after missing games against the Eagles and Seahawks over the next two weeks. And the good news is that Evans will not be put on injured reserve, which would require him to miss four games.

Yet Tampa Bay Times reporter Rick Stroud reported that the injury is more in line with what Evans suffered last year and that he is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. Stroud presumably got this information from a source close to Evans. That would mean that Evans would miss the 49ers game in Week 6 as well, and might not return until the Bucs travel to Detroit to play the Lions on Monday Night Football in Week 7.

Will Mike Evans Hit 1,000 Yards Again?

For the second straight season Mike Evans will have to come from behind to hit 1,000 yards receiving and keep his streak of 1,000-yard seasons intact. The future Hall of Famer has just 10 catches for 140 yards and a touchdown, which came against the Jets on Sunday, through the first three games of the 2025 season. Evans is on the cusp of history trying to become the only player in NFL history with 12 straight seasons of 1,000 yards and it becomes an even bigger challenge with him expected to miss a few weeks.

But just like last year when he was off pace when he returned to action in Week 11 against the New York Giants and still hit 1,000 yards by Week 18, there is plenty of games left and time is on Evans' side if he can return to action by Week 6.

Evans scored his first touchdown of the season for the Bucs early in the second quarter of their home opening win over the Jets. Quarterback Baker Mayfield hit Evans on a slant on first and goal where he beat Sauce Gardner for the touchdown. While he was targeted eight times, Mike Evans ended up with four catches for 33 yards and the score.

That puts him 860 yards away from the 1,000 yard goal with 14 games to go. He'd need to average 61.4 yarder per game moving forward for the rest of the season, but that number could climb higher if he were to miss some time. Defenses have been fixated on slowing down Evans, which has led to a great rookie start for Emeka Egbuka. With Chris Godwin Jr. out for the first three weeks, Evans had become the primary focus of opposing defenses and dictated coverage.

It's unknown whether or not Tampa Bay will have Godwin at their disposal on Sunday against the Eagles. Egbuka and Sterling Shepard could be the starters for the Bucs with Ryan Miller and Tez Johnson providing some depth for Mayfield at receiver. Egbuka, the team's first-round pick, is the leading receiver with 14 catches for 181 yards (12.9 avg.) and a team-high three touchdowns. Shepard has 11 catches for 153 yards (13.9 avg.) this season.
