Latest Bucs Headlines

The Bucs ended a four-game losing streak with a come-from-behind 30-27 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, putting them at 3-6 on the season.

Below is our weekly list of Most Impressive players from the game on Sunday. Take a look and see if you agree and add your thoughts in the comments section below.

CB Jamel Dean
If you look up the phrase “bounce back game’ you will see a picture of Jamel Dean with a big grin on his face and a game ball after Sunday’s win over the Cardinals. Dean, who was burned for three scores last week at Seattle, played like a veteran for the most part of Sunday, notching four more pass breakups and a huge interception in the fourth quarter on the Bucs eight yard line with Arizona poised to put the game away.

Dean now has eight pass breakups in the last two games plus the before mentioned interception, and added two tackles including one for loss.

LB Lavonte David
Steady, dependable and as fundamentally sound as any linebacker in the NFL, Lavonte David is the best kept secret in the league. And it is a shame he has played on so many bad Bucs’ teams over the years and will probably never get the due he deserves.

On Sunday the veteran captain led the team in tackles with eight, but his knack for stripping the ball was big to help turn momentum in the Bucs favor. Not only did David force it, but he also recovered the ball with Arizona inside the Bucs red zone.

OLB Shaq Barrett
Another game, another sack for the Barrett who now has 11.5 on the season as he continues to lead the NFL in that department. At $4 million this season, Barrett was the steal of free agency.

In addition to his sack, Barrett added three tackles, two for loss and two quarterback hits.

QB Jameis Winston
The duality of good and bad QB play was on full display with Jameis Winston on Sunday. Two interceptions – these can’t be explained away by head coach Bruce Arians – but then followed up with scrambles for first downs, a calmness in the pocket and a fourth quarter comeback make it hard to know exactly what the future of Winston and the Bucs will be. At the end of there day, the gunslinger kept firing, making some terrific second half throws and led the Bucs out of the quagmire of a four-game losing steak.

Winston finished with 358 yards on 30-of-48 passing, with two interceptions and one touchdown pass. Winston also added 40 yards on three scrambles, actually out gaining Cardinals Kyler Murray on the ground.

Winston keeps dangling the carrot, making Bucs curse at the TV on one play and high five their buddies on the next.

OLB Jason Pierre-Paul
Whatever the Bucs do following this year, they need to keep Pierre-Paul as a member of the Bucs defense in 2020. The leadership Pierre-Paul provides can’t be taught. While he only notched three tackles officially, his will to win and out going approach when firing up his teammates is invaluable. In the second half Pierre-Paul was seen coming off the field like a madman, yelling at his teammates, throwing his helmet and even barking at his coaches. When Pierre-Paul talks, the young Bucs listen.

Some might say that attitude is too extreme but for a young Bucs defense who has been yearning for leadership, Pierre-Paul’s passion should be applauded.

Honorable Mentions: P Bradley Pinion, WRs Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, TE O.J. Howard and DT Ndamukong Suh.
