The Bucs received a good bit of news on Wednesday’s injury report to begin the week, as much of the focus continues to be centered around running Bucky Irving (shoulder, foot) and wide receiver Chris Godwin Jr. (fibula) during the walk-through practice session.

Thursday’s injury report revealed more updates, and Pewter Report saw Godwin out there moving around and catching passes.

Irving and Godwin were again both spotted on Thursday morning, but each only participated in a limited fashion. The offense could greatly use them back in the fold, and being out there for consecutive days is a positive sign as they work into game shape. For what it is worth, offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard shared during his Thursday press conference that each has been a part of installs this week, an essential part to being considered to suit up against the Bills on Sunday.

“With them being limited and still having another day, we’ll see how this week goes,” Grizzard said. “But it’s definitely something early in the week where you try to plan around, what’s the chance you’re going to have this guy in the game plan versus is he going to be down? If it’s something where you don’t feel like he’s going to be up that week, then we would never want to take a rep from somebody that might be in the game and playing the game, away from those guys.

“It’s definitely something we look at. It’s just good to really have those guys out there – especially having ‘Buck’ (Bucky Irving) and seeing Chris [Godwin Jr.] as well – just because of the energy those guys bring and the way the other guys feed off it. It’s really good to see.”

While much remained the same out there, outside linebacker Anthony Nelson (illness) did not participate. Nelson is the latest starter out of action, and the third player in his position room to join the list. It is an unfortunate development for him to have come down with an illness, with the hope being he gets well enough in the coming days to be game ready.

Defensive tackle Vita Vea (back) and safety Antoine Winfield Jr. (foot) remained limited. At this point in the year, no one is 100%, but every defensive player is necessary facing quarterback Josh Allen and preventing one of the league’s best players from having a big performance.

Just ask outside linebackers coach/run game coordinator Larry Foote.

“He’s a freak; he’s hard to get on the ground,” Foote said about Allen. “He is unique in the way he’s big and strong, but he can get to his top speed fast. That is why he can rip through some defensive lines. We have got to be disciplined; it is going to take all hands-on deck to get him down. I joke with my guys… Good luck, I’ll be rooting for you guys.”

An eye will also be kept on Vea and Winfield as Tampa Bay’s defensive stars are irreplaceable for this unit. Regarding left guard Ben Bredeson (hamstring) and outside linebacker Haason Reddick (ankle/knee), it is looking less and less likely they are in play for Sunday.

Ultimately, head coach Todd Bowles will provide definitive answers on Friday, before the team packs its bags (and jackets) for the trip to Buffalo.
