Despite the fact that a combined 26 points were scored between the Bucs and Packers, Sunday’s game was very entertaining since it came down to the last play. Drama ensued in the final moments of Green Bay’s 14-12 win at Tampa Bay, and that continued after it as Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took found something on the Bucs Jumbotron during the last play that may have helped them win it.

With 3:04 remaining Tom Brady orchestrated an 89-yard scoring drive, capped off with a touchdown pass to Russell Gage with 14 seconds to go. That cut the Bucs’ deficit to 14-12. And that’s where the controversy unfolded for multiple reasons. Attempting two-point conversion to tie it up, the Bucs were flagged for a delay of game penalty that moved them back five yards.

As the Bucs tried to snap it before the clock ran out, it looked like Tampa Bay had the look they wanted on a Leonard Fournette run up the middle. Because of the penalty, though, the Bucs had to select a passing play that ended up getting tipped by De’Vondre Campbell before Brady could find Gage in the end zone.

Apparently, Rodgers took notice of an image on the Tampa Bay’s Jumbotron in Raymond James Stadium that may have given an advantage to the Packers with a better look at the Bucs’ alignment. Rodgers tipped off his teammates about it.

Rodgers was cryptic with his response in a post-game interview on the field. It’s not exactly definitive in what Rodgers was referring to. He also felt their should’ve been a delay of game on the touchdown play as the Bucs just got the snap off.

Rodgers Explains The Last Play

“Well they showed it on the previous play, too. It was a delay on both plays,” Rodgers said. “Sometimes you see things in the game, sometimes the Jumbotron shows things you probably shouldn’t show even at home. I saw something. I just passed on the information.”

While separately asked about the overall look of the two-point try before the penalty, head coach Todd Bowles said that they had the play that they were planning on using.

“It had the look we wanted,” Bowles said.  “It was a two-way play – obviously it didn’t work out.”

Moving back five yards put the Bucs in a situation where they had to pass the ball from that far out. This also set the Packers defense up to drop multiple players in coverage, which led to the pass breakup by Campbell.

“It’s tough when you move back to the seven, eight-yard line,” Bowles said. “They drop that many people to get it into the window – took a shot at it.”

“There’s a lot to it,” said Brady. “So bad execution on offense at a time where we needed good execution and we didn’t get it.”

We don’t have an explanation yet of exactly what Rodgers was referring to with the jumbotron, but we could get one in the coming days. Rodgers makes a weekly appearance on the Pat McAfee Show on Tuesdays. Considering McAfee was tweeting about it, it wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers gets asked again.
