Latest Bucs Headlines

Pewter Report has had wall-to-wall coverage over the first two days of the 2024 NFL Draft covering the Bucs with our live draft show, presented by Celsius. That will continue on Saturday for day three of the draft with rounds four through seven.

The benefit of being on a live stream as the Bucs each pick is that Pewter Report can give our immediate reaction and breakdown of each selection, deciding on whether we like the pick or not. We did so on day one and continued it on day two, where the Bucs had three selections at 57 in round two and 89 and 92 in round three.

Bucs’ Second-Round Pick: Chris Braswell

Barmore’s selection felt like a nice consolation prize after the Dallas Cowboys took edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland with the pick right before. It’d be interesting to see what Tampa Bay would’ve done had Kneeland been on the board. Nonetheless, Braswell has great measurables as an edge rusher and typically finishes the job when in the backfield. There’s still room for development, but he brings a violent, physical nature with speed that should see him competing for a starting job on the edge.

This was Pewter Report’s Scott Reynolds and Josh Queipo’s thoughts on it:

Bucs Pick Tykee Smith At 89 In Round Three

This might be my favorite pick of the draft through two days as the Bucs can have a field day in their secondary at safety. Smith has exceptional football instincts, a high football IQ, is physical, can blitz and also covers very well while taking the ball away. He’s a tremendous fit for the Bucs and can also play in the nickel.

This allows Todd Bowles the opportunity to scheme up different looks that have Antoine Winfield Jr, Jordan Whitehead and Smith all playing at the same time and playing to their strengths. Winfield is the Bucs’ best defensive player and they just helped out their All-Pro safety by adding Smith to the roster.

Here was the initial reaction when we saw that Smith was going to Tampa Bay:

Tampa Bay Drafts Jalen McMillan Three Picks Later At 92

The Bucs selected their first skill position player of the 2024 NFL Draft with Washington receiver Jalen McMillan. This also keeps the pipeline of Washington players coming to Tampa as Vita Vea, Joe Tryon-Shoyinka, Greg Gaines and Cade Otton are all former Huskies that became Bucs. With the exception of Gaines, all of these players have been drafted by Tampa Bay, now including McMillan.

Lining up primarily as a wide receiver in the slot, McMillan is the type of player who knows how to create separation. He’s also played with tons of talent at Washington where Rome Odunze and Ja’Lynne Polk led the way, so McMillan had to learn how to make the most of his reps.

That’ll be the case with him playing behind Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. McMillan brings a lot of speed to the Bucs. It also creates intrigue for what they’ll do with Godwin, who was expected to move inside more, but McMillan can occupy that role and rarely lined up outside at receiver. Surely, offensive coordinator Liam Coen has a plan in mind.

The Bucs aren’t done yet as day three of the NFL Draft starts up on Saturday. Check out the Pewter Report Live Draft Show, energized by Celsius, live on our YouTube channel – PewterReportTV. It starts at 11:00 AM ET, which is an hour before the draft gets going. More reactions are to come as we stay on for the whole entire draft.
