EXPECTED COMPENSATORY PICK
Round 4: Syracuse OLB Alton Robinson

6-3, 259 – Senior

PREVIOUS PICK: Miami RB DeeJay Dallas
With the Bucs’ expected fourth-round compensatory draft pick, the team adds another piece to its front seven in Robinson, a gritty, athletic edge rusher from Syracuse. Robinson had a tremendous junior year with 39 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10 sacks, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, but his production dipped as a senior, and so has his draft stock.

Yet Robinson’s 32 career tackles for loss, 19 career sacks and five career forced fumbles were enough to get him into the Senior Bowl. And that was good for Robinson, who had a great week of practice and notched two sacks in the Senior Bowl game.

Even if the Bucs re-sign Pro Bowl outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett and fellow edge rusher Jason Pierre-Paul, the team likely won’t have enough salary cap room to bring back Carl Nassib. That will create a void that Robinson and Anthony Nelson, last year’s fourth-round pick, can help fill.

Robinson’s Syracuse Career Defensive Stats
2017: 30 tackles, 6 TFLs, 5 sacks, 1 FF
2018: 39 tackles, 17 TFLs, 10 sacks, 3 FFs, 2 FRs, 2 PBUs
2019: 46 tackles, 9 TFLs, 4 sacks, 3 PBUs, 1 FF

There is a lot to like about Robinson’s tape. He’s a relentless pass rusher shows that he can win with power or speed around the edge. Robinson uses his long arms to go for the sack-strip. He has 32-inch arms and a wingspan of 79 inches.

Robinson is not just an edge rusher. Like Barrett, he’s tenacious against the run. At 6-foot-3, 259 pounds, Robinson has a good frame and a good skill set to be an immediate rotational outside linebacker with the potential to develop into a starter down the road.
