The Pick: Derwin James, S, Florida State
In the preseason, it was doubtful that a player of James’ caliber would even make it to No. 13. But, due to an odd season where he was playing a position that really only exists in college, his tape didn’t do him many favors. James is expected to absolutely light up the NFL Scouting Combine at the end of February, so that has a chance to really build his stock up and give him some national momentum going into draft weekend. But, regardless of where his hype goes, going to Washington is a good fit for talent and for need.
