No. 8 Chicago Bears (5-11)
The Pick: Denzel Ward, CB, Ohio State
The Chicago Bears could go a couple of different direction at No.8. For one, they just hired an offensive-minded head coach, so there’s a good chance this pick could be offense-based. But, follow me on the reasoning for Ward.
I think the Bears have a chance this off season and next to capitalize on some free agent wide receivers. Sammy Watkins, Allen Robinson and Jarvis Landry in 2018, and Odell Beckham, Jordy Nelson and Golden Tate in 2019. That’s not the case with cornerbacks. They have a handful of decent corner backs, but need a lock down guy. They can have their pick of Fitzpatrick or their top outside corner back here. I think they go Ward since they don’t need the safety versatility.
