No. 1 Cleveland Browns (0-16)
The Pick: Josh Allen, QB, Wyoming
Though Deshone Kizer wasn’t as bad as it may seem, the Browns still went 0-16 this past season. Any time you pull some stuff off like that, you’re picking a quarterback at the top of the draft – especially when you have another pick three picks later.
In most mocks you’ll see Josh Rosen or Sam Darnold go to this spot. Rosen has said that he would rather not play for Cleveland (I don’t blame him), and who knows if that will carry any weight when it comes to draft day. Let’s say it does, and let’s say the report that the Browns seriously like Allen at the top of the draft is real.
We’ll read plenty of mocks that don’t have Allen as the top man – perhaps rightfully so – but here is one that does just to see what can happen. Though unlikely, it isn’t coming out of thin air. Allen’s stats leave a lot to be desired, but his size and arm talent are through the roof. If the right quarterback coach can get his hands on him, there’s a chance he can rise to the selection.
