No. 2: New York Giants (3-13)
The Pick: Sam Darnold, QB, USC
I know that taking Saquon Barkley is going to be tempting here because the Giants really need a solidified running game to balance out their offense, but I can’t see them passing up a quarterback right now.
I think new general manager Dave Gettleman is going to want to get his hands on his quarterback of the future. As we saw with the Packers and Aaron Rodgers, even if the Giants are sticking with Eli Manning for another year or two, that’s actually what could be best for them taking a prospect like Darnold.
Darnold threw for over 7,000 yards in just two seasons at USC. His first year as a starter was stellar, all the way to a heroic Rose Bowl win. This season wasn’t as top-notch with plenty of mistakes he’ll still need to work out in the NFL before he becomes a starter or a franchise quarterback.
