According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Bucs tight end Rob Gronkowski will be a game-time decision in Week 8. Tampa Bay’s top tight end hasn’t played since Week 3 against the Rams. Officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Saints, Gronkowski practiced in a limited capacity all week. Rapoport spoke to one source who was “optimistic” that Gronkowski would play.
#Bucs TE Rob Gronkowski (ribs) is considered a game-time decision after missing about a month, and he’ll likely work out pre-game to be sure. One source described optimism about his playing status, which would be a big lift for TB against the #Saints.

The future Hall of Famer was off to a terrific start in 2021, catching 16 passes for 184 yards and four touchdowns before fracturing his ribs. Gronkowski caught two touchdowns in each game to open the season, and is still tied for second on the team with four scores.
In his stead, O.J. Howard and Cam Brate have tried to pick up the slack. The duo has been solid in the passing game, but not as effective as Gronkowski. Howard has 11 catches for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Brate has 11 for 110 and no scores. As blockers, neither can hold a candle to Gronkowski. That will be key in Sunday’s game against a ferocious and deep Saints defensive front. Gronkowski has not played well against New Orleans, so he could have a chance at redemption in Week 8.
The Bucs face the Saints in a divisional battle on Sunday at 4:25 pm.
