According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bucs may have dodged another injury bullet. When Chris Godwin went down after a nasty hit to the knee against the Saints, it was easy to fear the worst. But Rapoport tweeted that the Bucs believe Godwin avoided major injury. The Bucs leading receiver may have suffered a strained MCL, but avoided any full tears.
Though he was ruled out tonight, the initial belief is that #Bucs WR Chris Godwin did not suffer a major injury, source said. He’ll have tests tomorrow, but based on the early diagnosis, Godwin sprained his MCL. That means he’ll miss time, with an MRI to determine when he’s back.

Godwin will likely receive an MRI on Monday, depending on the severity of his swelling. The fifth-year receiver has not missed a game this season after missing four a year ago. It sounds like Godwin will likely miss some time moving forward, but could avoid a stint on injured reserve. Godwin had six catches for 49 yards when he bowed out. He leads the team with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns this season.

The Bucs also lost wide receiver Mike Evans and running back Leonard Fournette to hamstring injuries on Sunday night. In positive news, Antonio Brown returns from suspension on Monday. He and Rob Gronkowski may have to anchor the passing attack while Evans and Godwin get healthy. Brown hasn’t played since Week 6. But over his five games this season, Brown has 29 catches for 418 yards and four touchdowns.
