With a report released on Tuesday that the Bucs and Patriots have agreed to a deal that would send tight end Rob Gronkowski and a seventh-round draft pick to Tampa Bay in exchange for a fourth-round pick, speculation about O.J. Howard’s future is at an all-time high.
There were rumors that Tampa Bay was looking to deal Howard near the trade deadline last season, while Michael Lombardi reported this past week that the Bucs were looking to trade the tight end at or around draft day. But as of now, Tampa Bay does not yet have a trade pending for the former first-round pick, per Adam Schefter.
Buccaneers now are poised to have three notable tight ends – Rob Gronkowski, OJ Howard and Cameron Brate – on their roster.
Two days before the draft, they do not have any pending trade for Howard.

With Cameron Brate’s contract restructured this offseason and blocking tight end Antony Auclair recently re-signed, marking their return to Tampa Bay, Howard seems to be the odd man out as Gronkowski looks primed to take over as the Bucs’ top pass-catching option at the position in 2020. Howard is due to make just over $3.5 million next season with a fifth-year option still on the table.
