Bucs’ legend Warren Sapp has been one of those former players in Miami, a city where he played his college football at for the University of Miami and won a championship with the Hurricanes in 1994.

While the big game between the 49ers and Chiefs kicks off on Sunday, Saturday is also an important day for the Bucs’ community as Bucs’ Ring Of Honor member and current 49ers GM John Lynch has a chance to make the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Lynch had 1,054 tackles, 26 interceptions, and 16 forced fumbles in 15 years while going to nine Pro Bowls and getting named as a first team All-Pro two times.

Joining the Rich Eisen Show, Sapp gave his support of his former teammate Lynch, explaining why the hard-hitting safety deserves join him in the Hall Of Fame.

“I’ll just make it easy for everybody to understand,” Sapp said. “Tampa 2 can not be played in the new NFL. You can’t command the middle of the field and dominate the middle of the field like we did with me, [Derrick] Brooks, and Lynch. The Cowboys have their triplets, we have our triplets in me, Brooks, and Lynch. And since you can’t play Cover 2 anymore, I’m a dinosaur, Brooks is a dinosaur, and Lynch is also a dinosaur. Where do dinosaurs belong? In the museum. And what is the Hall Of Fame? A museum, so can you put my dinosaur in the museum? You can’t even have a safety hit like that anymore. I mean, a safety can’t get in the box and dominate a football game like John Lynch, like Ronnie Lott, like all the great ones did, like Dawkins.”

That last player Sapp mentioned, Brian Dawkins, has been a player that some have compared Hall of Fame credentials to with Lynch’s career as Dawkins has been inducted and Lynch has not. But if it were up to Sapp, he’d take Lynch over Dawkins in that conversation.

“I love Dawkins to death, he’s a Florida boy,” Sapp said. “But I’d take Lynch every day of the week and twice on Sunday. That’s my guy, ask Mark Chumura how it feels to be hit by Lynch, ask [John] Allred, any of those tight ends in the league. We commanded the middle of the field and f you wanted to come across you had to pay a toll, get a pass, and get permission, and we still didn’t like it.”
