PewterReport.com’s staff is live from Mobile, Alabama all week for the Senior Bowl. At this event, the top seniors from college football will play in front of coaches, general managers, and scouts from all 32 teams in the NFL, in the hope that their name will be called in the 2020 NFL draft.
After two days of practice, these were the players that stood out on defense for each team.
NORTH
DT Larrell Murchison – NC State
Some pass rushers have a signature move that they go to on third downs. Former Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney was infamous for using a spin move, and that’s what defensive tackle Larrell Murchison was pulling off with ease all afternoon. This is not a companions of Murchison to Freeney, it just shows that Murchison was having success early and often in the pass rush and it came from the same move. Murchison was able to move in one fluid motion and get by the defender because it.

DT Neville Gallamore – Oklahoma
Gallamore showed a ton of speed getting to the quarterback on the pass rush. In the blink of an eye Gallamore was behind the opposing blocker, and it all took was a quick move to get the job done. The Oklahoma product is quick with his hands and you can tell he plays with a lot of energy as he sprints back to the huddle after the play is done in both videos. To go with his speed, Gallamore is a powerful defensive tackle as well.

S Khaleke Hudson – Michign
Hudson may not have made the actual interception in the video below, but he was in good position and anticipated the play well. Hudson has been strong in coverage this week as a safety and has shown the ability to make a play on the ball once it’s in the air.

SOUTH
S Kyle Dugger – Lenoir-Rhyne
Dugger came into this week with a lot to prove coming from a small school and he has lived up to expectations. Dugger play with a very high motor that just never stops. He’s been solid in coverage, winning his one-on-one matchups in the first video below, and then showed off his physicality run stopping prowess in the second video. Dugger is versatile in the way he can defend the run and pass, and his high energy will never slow him down.

Edge Azur Kamara – Kansas
The Kansas edge rusher has good size and speed that helps him get distant from his opposing blockers. On this play, he does a solid job of reading the play and making the stop when the running back came to his side. What separates a good from a great edge rusher is the ability to also stop the run. Everyone wants to go after the quarterback, but it’s the players that can also make the plays on first and second down that stay on the field. Kamara has gotten it done in both areas so far this week.

DT Benito Jones – Ole Miss
Jones has been one of the top run stuffers this week at the Senior Bowl. The Ole Miss defensive tackle has done very will in clogging up the middle of the line and forcing running backs to choose a different hole to run through. The first video shows him using a nice rip move to quickly get after the ball carrier. Jones is a powerful defensive linemen and as you’ll see in the second the video, can move his opponents further back from strength alone. Add in the set of moves he has and Jones is a tough defensive lineman to get leverage on.
