A bird in the hand. . . I am done with high priced free agents. They use up cap space, have bad locker room karma and underperform. I have a hard time thinking of any top dollar free agent that worked out other than VJAX. Let’s just not go there. What we do know is that we have two proven workhorses who want to stay with the Bucs. Humphries and Brate. They are worth every penny. Don’t tell me we don’t have the money for these guys. Just avoid signing some free agent money pits and PRESTO problem solved. And,… Read more »

Well, you can take my opinion and three bucks and get a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Like most fans, I just shoot off at the mouth without necessarily knowing what I’m talking about. There are two parts to my argument. One, I think Brate and Humphries deserve to stay. And, yeah, I want the tandem of Howard and Brate. With only one good TE, Bucs are an injury away from disaster. Two, I just don’t trust the big name free agents. It hasn’t worked out yet. So, obviously management isn’t going to listen to me, but, yeah, I’d keep… Read more »

No offense from my end.
So, did you envision a scenario where the Bucs traded down in the draft?
I think that’s the only way we get more picks. I can’t see anyone giving us anything for any of our players. Maybe a sixth at best for Jackson.

Trevor, I don’t mind your plan at all. At this stage in the game, it’s as good as any other. My BIG question is why are all of you putting L David and K Alexander on the inside and Beckwith on the outside?? Aren’t they all more suited to play the opposite? Also, I’m not sure if JPP can play LB, but I know for a fact that Nassib CAN’T! Isn’t that why CLE cut him in the first place? He is a MUCH better fit in a 4-3 than a 3-4. Those are the only problems I have with… Read more »

Trevor I agreed with a lot of the things you said but if you’re a mathematician and historian how do you really believe there’s a quarterback in place with the history he has if history repeats itself and the math stays the same Bruce Arians fails as a head coach with this quarterback. If you use history and math instead of hopium you might come to a different conclusion.

Pete, don’t sleep on Auclair. Dude can play some ball and is more versatile than Brate. He’s a big guy with wheels. Hands, compared to Cam, are a little suspect. But, something he’s been working to improve. Not that they are bad. Dude is good with leverage in the blocking and is good at breaking through the progressions to get to his route. Two years in the league now and, I believe, hasn’t even scratched the surface of his potential. Playing behind two of the better TEs in the league will have that effect, due to lack of game time… Read more »

No top drawer overpriced FAs, OLine or otherwise, but I like getting Matheiu. We can keep Hump and Brate and still get Matheiu. It’s not either or. Greenberg is a cap master. Fill the RG spot in 2nd round after a trade down for the extra pick. Go Bucs.

You’re really gonna go into 2019 with the same linebackers? No. I respectfully say that’s a mistake. Their coverage numbers are awful. Not a fan of the TE picture either.
Nice job on OL. Quinnen obviously would be lovely on the other side and the RB projection seems realistic. But overall I’m only lukewarm on this.

Trevor I agree that Mosley will be a very tough get. Perhaps a more cost-effective option in the $5 million range? If that’s not feasible exchange one of the Day 2 or 3 picks.

I like this one a lot better than last one and find I think like Trevor a lot. Lol.

McCoy and Alexander make sense if price is right.

Franchise tag for Smith is smart move too.

I really don’t hate any of this plan. I have lot concerns about O line getting fixed Year one and last plan didn’t address it imo.

I hate losing Brate and would not have done that last year in Koetters offense. However if Arians isn’t using two tied end sets much he’s a luxury they can’t afford. Just hope Howard stays healthy.

I’d rather pay to much for Mosely then bring Kwon, and McCoy back for 20 million. Both players have captained some of the worst defenses in Buc history. Time for a new direction, Mosely is a 3-4 LB, we don’t know if Kwon can even play in that system, and will miss all of OTA’s, training camp, preseason, and might not be ready for the opener. Why would you want to throw more money at him expecting a different result? This draft is loaded at DT, good ones into the middle rounds, why pay McCoy a career loser, with no… Read more »

I always find myself agreeing with you the most Trevor, this is a solid plan..while I love Brate, I know Arians isn’t really a 2 TE system kind of guy so it does make sense moving on from him..my only concern is that OJ has not been able to stay healthy. Kwon is around the price range I would be willing to bring him back for, but it would be nice to bring in some other linebackers to this defense too, I hope we atleast bring cj mosely in just to see what he wants, he’s way better than Kwon.… Read more »

MCCOY EXCUSE CANNON : PREPARE TO FIRE!! Sikkema says: “I don’t think McCoy has ever had real defensive coaching and a real defensive philosophy.” -How was JPP successful last year? Nassib? Vea? Same coaches right? “It’s time to get mean, get aggressive and play in a real defense under Todd Bowles and Bruce Arians.” -Just gonna flip the switch? LOL. If only life worked that way. Old dogs, new tricks. Millions in the bank already. DC Leslie Frasier was a HC. Lovie Smith was a defensive guru and took his team to the superbowl. Schiano won a National Championship as… Read more »

You think JPP, Nassib can play? JPP and Nassib were successful because of Mcoy. JPP had 1.0 sack in 15′ in 2016 7.0 sacks in 2017 8.5 sacks with Mcoy in 18′ 12.5 sacks. Cleveland cut Nassib because he had a total of 5.5 sacks in two years, with Mcoy 6.5 sacks. Mcoy flushes the pocket to allow these guys to eat. You go ahead and bash Mcoy all you want but us Buc fans are smarter than that.

So was that because of McCoy or because of the Dline coach, his name is eluding me? Or perhaps it was because they switched schemes and became more of an attacking line instead of all the stupid stunting we had with the old regime. I don’t recall any other dlinemen excelling next to McCoy in the first 8 years of his career.

Not the greatest plan I’ve seen so far. Signing McCown again is daft, might as well stick with Fitz in that case. Either that or actually have some faith in Griffin and have him as the clear backup. You want us to go all in on Winston this year, well no point in signing a vet QB or drafting one then, sink or swim with the interception machine this year. I note that on your “way too early” list you have DE John Cominsky listed yet in your projected draft you didn’t draft him, doubt he’ll be undrafted. Rate this… Read more »

I do not like this plan. Scott’s was much better. First I would give this an F just for signing Josh Mccown alone. Also we desperately need a veteran CB in free agency for sure. Not adding a LB is just silly. Waiting until the 4th round to take a CB would be a mistake.

Between you and Reynolds your killing me😉. The first pick should be a DE. I know Bosa and Allen won’t be available, Ferrell, Gary or if we trade back Polite or Sweat. I just feel we have an opportunity to get a DE high we need to. We have JPP and 🤔 Gholston, need I say more. If we trade back and are able to pick up a extra 2 then we can go DE (1) and DT and OG or OT (2).

Would like to see a QB added that may actually have the potential to be a viable longer-term replacement for Winston if he finally fails to prove to be the franchise QB most of us are hoping he can be (though believe he’s going to have to have another major off-the-field issue for the Glazers to move on). And believe another vet CB is needed to compete opposite Davis instead of another rookie. Plenty of youth already at CB to develop, Claiborne, McCourty, Desir, Jackson or Verrett might be better alternatives. Would prefer to see a LB added in rounds… Read more »

No way I take a fourth of fifth for Brate, a second, sure. But not to Cowboys. Send him to San Diego in the AFC. Antonio Gates has to be like 50 years old. Brate becomes an instant starter and a go to guy for Phillip Rivers. And no way we keep McCoy. Try a trade for a decent player, low draft pick, whatever. The guy hasn’t shown up for nine years. Why would you expect him to be better in 2019? And after next year we definitely will have to cut him just for the cap hit, plus he’ll… Read more »

This plan is pretty solid. The only thing that sucks with both plans so far is it seems we are just shy of getting everything we need, mostly due to the lack of money from having to resign key players. I’ll be honest, if someone like Williams is there at 5, I can see McCoy Vea and Williams being an absolutely devastating front 3 in Bowles Defense and would leave us less needy when McCoy reaches the end. Getting McCoy and Kwon for Cap friendly price would be a great thing, just as long as Bowles see’s them fitting. I… Read more »

Q Williams probably won’t be there at 5, if I had to guess, and I do, just like everyone else who doesn’t get to pick 1st overall. But, Ed Oliver should be, maybe even available at 7. That would be my dream scenario. Move down, get the extra pick or two and still have the opportunity to grab Oliver, one of the tip rated IDLs in this draft. Some analysts think he’s better than Williams, too

I like your GM pics. Only disagree didnt get better LB somewhere? Have real concerns about alexander-overrated and injured and beckwith, who actually is best LB we have, yes even over David, but is he coming back healthy to rely on? guess we dont know? so as much as love williams with first pic if there? would probably go devin white and put him inside, hopefully for next 10 years? Everyone seems to forget the best player on D should be MLB, has to tackle and cover, this is the QB of the D, way more impt than D tackle.… Read more »

Trevor’ s draft is fantasy land. Williams is not going to be there. He is top three material. Jonah Williams, LB White or trade back for Greedy Williams. Jacksonville and Denver may pay for a QB.

Trevor I like your thought process, however, Matt Bryant? No way. All that does is give the Bucs a kicking problem again. He’s injury prone and old. It almost guarantees you having to replace the kicker AGAIN in a year or two, if not THIS year during the season. Instead, keep searching for the young reliable guy and get years of stability. Matt Bryant is a reckless pick.

Love you Trevor, nothing personal. Just hated the plan. If fix the OL is the first priority you admit to, and you keep Gerald McCoy in this plan, why draft a DT with the 1st pick when the Alabama and Florida OT are on the board and can easily replace Dotson. Also just because they replace Dotson as a starter is no reason to cut him. He would be an amazing back up (guaranteed he gets no better offers). Picking 5 in the draft and not taking the beat OL available would be irresponsible in my opinion. Also, and my… Read more »

Love Quinnen Williams pick it makes that defensive front look fierce, but you are playing with fire if you don’t fix the OLine. Reminds me a lot of when the Texans took Clowney when they already had JJ Watt with Mack, Donald and Beckham still on the board. I think the Bucs need to stick to the plan and get the best Olineman on the board and not get cute. I grade your plan C+

Nothing against you or your plan but I may write a book.. this MORON!!! Of a GM has left soooo many holes and wasted $$$, one offseason can’t fix this team. I agree you DO NOT EVER pay a backup TE 7M – the #3 TE and #20Th TE in the NFL in YPG is only a 15 yard difference!!!!Look it up 39-55 yards – that’s “ STARTING “ TEs !! NO TE should EVER be your 1st Rd pick in the NFL. Name ONE who’s turned around a franchise? Greg Little just set a single season record by a… Read more »

Best draft scenario, we trade back and move around so we grab Cody Ford 1st then maneuver to get Devin Bush. After that BPA out of Edge rusher/secondary/WR!!! And go up and get them if they are there!

I was in the middle of reading your article and when I cam across “QB Josh McCown nearly 40 yrs old needs to be signed as a backup.” I had to stop reading and comment. My comment is HELL NO!!!. Please do not do this. Look at the mans historical stats. More Ints than any touchdowns. That one mediocre year at the Bears with Lovie Smith motivated Smith to pull McCown out of retirement (from starting to coach high school football). McCown had maybe his most incredible year while at the Jets until he injured his throwing fingers, playoff implications… Read more »

Everybody is so down on McCoy saying he has never “Shown Up” when he was the ONLY guy showing up for years! He finally had help only last year… Problem is, you are not gonna be able to please everyone with any single plan because there is no way we can keep every player we have and be able to fills the holes we need to fill… McCoy, Alexander, Brate and Humphries are not all gonna be able to stay, it’s just not possible. Most people wanna keep Brate in case Howard gets hurt, but Auclair seemed to have really… Read more »

IMO you pretty much nailed this plan. Easily the best of the bunch, imo, given our needs. Focus on OL, take Quinnen Williams if he’s available, address a few needs in FA but don’t go overboard. My only qualm would be not addressing LB further with Kwon and Beckwith both coming off pretty serious injuries. Doesn’t mean we need to take a 1st round LB like White, but I do think a 3rd or 4th round pick should be thrown into our LB corps just to give us better depth. Overall, this is a very solid plan though. Addresses needs… Read more »
