The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have managed to avoid finishing at the bottom of the NFC South just three times in the last 11 years. The Bucs haven’t made the playoffs since 2007 in the Jon Gruden era. Tampa Bay is on its fifth head coach since then.

Bucs fans are frustrated, angry, and disappointed, and still bask in the XXXVII Super Bowl champs from the 2002 campaign. They are hoping for rapid improvement from new head coach Bruce Arians and a rapid ascent up the standings in the NFC South.

As for winning the Lombardi Trophy, well, the chances of that happening this year are slim. To be precise, according to the bookmakers, the actual odds for that are 11/1. In a division that has the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Carolina Panthers, it would be a big surprise to see the Bucs even moving up from the bottom to the top this year. The NFC South is by far one of the most ferocious divisions in the NFL, and the Saints are the third-placed favorite to win the Super Bowl according to the bookies with 10/1 odds. The Falcons are in the upper echelon with 25/1. With Matt Ryan and Julio Jones in sync everything is possible. Bookies are not favoring Carolina, but the Panthers might surprise because have one heck of a roster. Tampa Bay is a very young team that still needs time to develop.

That also goes for Jameis Winston, who was projected to be an elite quarterback when he was drafted first overall in 2015. He arrived as a guy that was supposed to lead the franchise into a better future. In his first year, Winston proved that he has everything to become a superstar leader and made the Pro Bowl. But a plethora of turnovers and a three-game suspension last year have derailed his progress.

The former Heisman trophy and the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year winner has to adapt to the new coaching staff and Bruce Arians’ offensive scheme while eliminating the needless turnovers. With him angling for a new contract, 2019 is a defining year for him.

What has created hope for Bucs fans is the fact that they will have very good coaches on the team. Arians replaced Dirk Koetter, who didn’t have enough capable assistants around him. With Arians, those sorts of things won’t be possible. The two-time Coach of the Year and the man known as the quarterback whisperer as one of the best offensive specialists in the entire league will have massive help from former New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles, who is a defensive mastermind. These two will make a perfect couple because Bowles is an extremely good defensive strategist.

Bowles will have a chance to use and develop the No. 5 pick from this year’s draft, inside linebacker Devin White, who has tremendous potential. Along with him, the Bucs have added safety Mike Edwards, who is according to many, one of the steals of the draft due to his ball skills. These players will need to play well as rookies, but it really all comes down to Winston. If he can come through with a career year, Tampa Bay has a chance to do something special. If he continues to turn the ball over, the Bucs will continue to suffer.
