Bucs head coach Todd Bowles has been called stoic, emotionless, and the second coming of Tony Dungy for his even-keeled temperament on the sidelines. Jon Gruden he is not.
And it’s been hard for Bucs fans to warm up to Bowles’ demeanor after he replaced the hot-blooded Bruce Arians, especially after a disappointing 8-9 record last year in his first season as Tampa Bay’s head coach. Let’s face it. Arians, who was beloved by fans and the media, is a hard act to follow, especially after winning Super Bowl LV in 2020 and following that up with a franchise-best 13-4 record in 2021.
But following the Bucs’ big, hard-fought, 20-17 win over the Vikings in Minnesota in Week 1, Bowles decided to let loose in the locker room and show some emotion.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles doesn’t show much emotion too often, but let out a primal scream in the locker room after his Tampa Bay started the season 1-0. The Bucs posted this clip on their social media channels.

“Hey, hey, hey,” Bowles said to his team, getting all the players’ attention in the post-game locker room. “One word describes this game – YEAHHHHHHHHHH!”

His Bucs players followed suit, yelling “Yeah!” at the top of their lungs in celebration.
“That’s a helluva start guys,” Bowles continued. “Helluva win on the road against a helluva tough team. We’ve got one down. We’ve got a lot to go. We know we can get better, but we fought our asses off. I’m proud of you. Let’s pack up and go home.”
It was a total team win for the Bucs in Week 1 with the defense coming up with three takeaways and holding the Vikings to just 17 points. While Vikings star receiver Justin Jefferson had a huge first half with seven catches for 138 yards, Bowles made the necessary adjustments in the second half and limited him to just two catches for only 12 yards.
The Bucs offense didn’t turn the ball over and found its rhythm in the second half after a very slow start. Kicker Chase McLaughlin starred on special teams, making all of his kicks, including a 57-yard field goal in the fourth quarter that proved to be the game-winner.
