Tom Brady will not be suiting up for any more NFL games, but he was suited up at Raymond James Stadium Sunday afternoon in a different fashion. Brady traded in the shoulder pads and helmet for a shirt and tie and a headset to call the Bucs 33-16 win over the Eagles.
Before the game, he made the rounds and caught up with the Tampa Bay front office that signed him as a free agent back in 2020, the key pieces he won a Super Bowl with during his first season with the team, and with the quarterback that replaced him, Baker Mayfield.
Let’s just say he was welcomed with open arms (literally), and that the NFL legend was glad to be back where he spent the final years of his iconic career.
Baker Mayfield Discusses His Interaction With Tom Brady, Addresses Comments On Brady Making Guys “Stressed Out”

Baker Mayfield put together quite the performance in Week 4, completing 30 of 47 passes for 347 passing yards, adding two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. It was the kind of bounce-back performance Mayfield and the Bucs needed in a big way before the schedule gets tougher and they embark on a short week facing the Falcons Thursday night.
Mayfield recently caught some attention for some comments he made about his predecessor on the Casa De Klub podcast with Corey Kluber. When he signed with Tampa Bay following Brady’s retirement, he had to come in and not only revive his career but try to fill an unfillable void. His full quotes are worth reading in their entirety, and after the game, Mayfield talked about how they were taken out of context.
“I think a lot of that got taken out of context,” Mayfield said. “None of it was personal by any means. It’s just what he demanded of the guys and that’s the aura of Tom Brady. That’s what he did to bring a championship here. [It’s] nothing personal, but yeah, [we were] talking before the game. He’s obviously happy for me and he knows the guys. He knows how much I enjoy throwing to Mike [Evans] and Chris [Godwin] because he got to do the same. It’s fun to be able to talk about the same experiences with a guy like that.”
“He did it his own way and that’s why he has seven rings. Not much else needs to be said.”
Not only did the two talk before the game, but Brady interviewed Mayfield after awarding him the LFG Player of the Game Award.

Lavonte David: “Tom Is Always Welcome In Tampa”

Inside linebacker Lavonte David is one of the players who remain on the team that had the chance to play with Brady during his complete tenure with the Bucs. David himself is worth mentioning for the big game he had, but he threw some love to his former quarterback’s way after getting to see him in his new career.
“It was fun,” David said about interacting with Brady before the game. “It was great getting a chance to see Tom again. It looked like he was happy doing what he is doing – I love that for him. Obviously, Tom is always welcome in Tampa, especially for what he [brought] to this city, what he [brought] to this organization and what he brought to me being a football player [with] how I was able to learn from him and for him to teach me certain things.
“It was definitely a great chance to sit down and talk to him and have a couple of laughs and stuff like that. Just to see that he is doing well – it was definitely great to see.”
Tom Brady is not easy to bring into town – just ask general manager Jason Licht and the rest of the Bucs’ front-office personnel. Head coach Todd Bowles doesn’t think he will be the one to pitch to Fox Sports to bring him in to call more of the team’s games in the future.
“I don’t think I have that kind of clout,” Bowles replied with a smile.
It remains to be seen when he will be back, but his return to where he won a Super Bowl went as well as it could have.
