Marcus Davenport | South | 3-4 OLB | UTSA
Davenport is certainly the most intriguing prospect for the Buccaneers at the Senior Bowl when you take into account what the team needs.
With N.C. State’s Bradley Chubb not in attendance, Davenport is the one realistic pass rusher the Bucs could be looking at in Mobile with the No. 7 overall pick. At 6-foot-6, 255 pounds, Davenport certainly has the length to be a player you’d want as an edge rusher. In his four seasons at UTSA, Davenport accumulated 21.5 sacks with 37.5 tackles for loss.
With Davenport being as tall as he is, he’s better suited as a stand-up linebacker, not having to waste movement or lose leverage getting down into a 3-point stance. However, though constantly having his hand in the ground would not be ideal for him, when he rushes as a stand-up linebacker, Davenport shows the ability to get up and under offensive tackles with a good punch and has good strength to knock offensive tackles back. He has nice speed off the line, as well. If he can show some bend in Mobile, you’ll start seeing his name a lot more in the Top 15 of mock drafts.
