Armani Watts’ situation as a prospect is interesting, but one Bucs fans know well because his old running mate, Justin Evans, went through the same sort of scrutiny a year ago.

The narrative surround the 5-foot-11, 205-pound Watts is that he’s an explosive athlete, has great range, but lacks discipline and technique. That was exactly like what Justin Evans was coming. As we saw, with the right coach, Evans was able to make, not only an immediate impact, but one that was and will be very needed for the Buccaneers.

On some of his tackles, Watts’ form is bad, often reckless, hurting himself, at times. But, what you can’t deny is how he explodes to the ball, whether with a ball carrier or in the air, and how fearless he plays the position with. With some discipline and technique, he can be a difference maker. Hopefully we’ll get a good look at him with some NFL coaching in Mobile.
