As expected Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs reported to mandatory mini-camp to avoid what would have been over $100,000 of fines had he skipped the last three days of workouts prior to summer break. Also as expected, Wirfs did not participate in team drills as he is currently holding out – actually, “holding in” – while his agent and the Tampa Bay front office continue to work on a long-term contract extension.
Wirfs has been a mainstay in the Bucs weight room this offseason, but has skipped the voluntary OTA (organized team activities) over what technically is a contract dispute. But this is not like Devin White’s hold out last year, as the inside linebacker was forced to play on his fifth-year option and even requested a trade.
Both the Bucs and Wirfs want to come to terms on a multi-year extension before training camp – or prior to the start of the season at the latest.
The Tampa Bay front office and coaching staff understand that Wirfs doesn’t want to take the practice field until his contract issue is resolved and all parties are on the same page.
Tristan Wirfs Is Present, But Randy Gregory Has Yet To Show Up This Offseason
New Bucs outside linebacker Randy Gregory was not at Tuesday’s mandatory mini-camp. He has not been to any of the OTAs that have been open to the media, either. Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was asked about Gregory’s absence this offseason at the conclusion of the first practice. Bowles said that Gregory’s absence was unexcused and was disappointing.
Bowles says Randy Gregory’s absence was unexcused and they’ll deal with it. Says it’s disappointing when anyone’s not here.

Gregory, who is currently suing the NFL, signed a one-year, $3 million prove-it deal to help provide some veteran depth at outside linebacker in the wake of Shaq Barrett’s release this offseason.
