President Donald Trump was the guest on Fox Sports Radio’s Outkick The Coverage with Clay Travis on Tuesday morning and the first question he answered was about Tom Brady’s departure from New England where he played the last 20 years.
“WellI think he’s gonna do a great job, you know, he’s been a winner,” Trump said. “He knows how to win. That’s a big thing, and he’s just been a great quarterback with a great coach (in Bill Belichick). That’s a great combination – and a great owner in Bob Kraft, frankly. He probably wanted a change.”
Trump has followed Brady’s career for almost two decades and sounded off about the quarterback’s decision to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trump is friends with the Glazers, the Bucs ownership family, who have also donated to his campaign in the past.
“He wanted a change, and I think he had plenty of teams to go to, and he picked one with – from what I understand – a very good offensive line and very good receivers,” Trump said. “He looked at that closely. He had other choices where they had players. His biggest thing is that he wants to win, and from what I know, and I know the ownership of the team (the Buccaneers), they’ll do whatever they have to because they are fantastic people – the owners of the team that Tom is on now.
“I think he’s going to do well in Tampa Bay. I think he’ll do well. I don’t know why it would be a surprise. Perhaps it will be, but I think he’s going to surprise a lot of people. I think he’s going to do great.

Brady is friends with Trump, but won’t endorse him because he wants to stay out of politics. Brady shared his thoughts on Trump earlier in the year in an interview with Howard Stern.
“He would call me after games, ‘I watched your game Tom, let’s play golf together,'” Brady told Stern. “So 2003, 2004, that’s kind of the way it was. He would golf, and then he became someone that — he would come up to our games and stand on the sideline. He would cheer for the Patriots. He always had a way of connecting with people, and still does.
“But the whole political aspect came, and I think I got brought into a lot of those things because it was so polarizing around the election time. It was uncomfortable for me. You can’t undo things — not that I would undo a friendship — but the political support is totally different than the support of a friend.”
Trump also continued his stance of disapproving of NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem, but did say that he hoped that both the NFL and college football would play this year.
