Monday’s practice began bright and early at 8 a.m. following the team’s schedule day off and Monday was another good day of training camp from Jameis Winston. He’s beginning to seem more comfortable in the offense as he strings together a number of strong periods and practices together consecutively.

It began in the team’s opening 11-on-11 period where he was finding his receivers with ease and moving the ball around with consistency. It was also where Winston fired possibly his lone true misstep of the day, a deep ball intended for Mike Evans that was nearly picked off by Mike Edwards.

Winston’s day continued strong in the next period of 11-on-11’s, attacking the middle of the field with O.J. Howard and Chris Godwin repeatedly.

Moving to the goal line period Winston was again stellar. Winston’s best period of practice came in the red zone last week and he continued his dominance on Monday. Winston did have one miscommunication with Evans where he threw a fade to the corner while his receiver stayed shallow, but he also had two great passes to Howard and Godwin for touchdowns.

In the team’s final period, as customary, the Bucs ran their simulated late-game drills. He gained a chunk with a comeback to Perriman, moving down the field with ease, and when he ran into his first bit of trouble, a third-and-medium, he connected with Godwin over the middle yet again for a first. He then added another pass to Godwin and a well-placed strike to Evans to get the team in field goal range.

With 13 seconds and no timeouts Winston lobbed a shot to the end zone but it fell incomplete and Gay would come on to convert the 42-yard field goal.

Bruce Arians added that this may have been Winston’s best day of camp thus far. He said that he really enjoyed his last practice, but this may have topped the list for his QB1.

“Two really, really solid days,” Arians said. “This might have been his best day. I thought Saturday was his best, but this might have even been better. I just thought the offense came out with a little more energy than our defense did and made some plays.”
