Winston, who was the overall No. 1 pick by the Buccaneers in 2015 wasn’t retained this offseason after Tampa Bay reached a deal with six-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady. Winston set numerous franchise records, and even some NFL marks, but was plagued by turnovers in his five seasons with Tampa Bay, including throwing 30 interceptions last season, his first under head coach Bruce Arians.
Winston became the first NFL player to throw for 30 more more touchdowns in a season while also throwing 30 interceptions. It wasn’t all bad in 2019 however, as Winston became just the eighth player in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a season(5,109).
Signing with a divisional rival like the Saints has rankled some feathers amongst Bucs fans. Winstone spoke with former FSU quarterback Charlie Ward on Tuesday and explained part of the decision to sign with New Orleans.
“It’s like a Harvard education in quarterback school.”
