UPDATE – Aug. 1 – 6:45 p.m. ET
NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reports that Bucs outside linebacker Yaya Diaby has a high ankle sprain as a result of today’s injury at the end of Thursday’s practice.
Officially a high ankle sprain per @Schultz_Report. Good news – and not surprising considering his X-rays were negative. Sources tell @PewterReport the #Bucs will be cautious and hold him out of the preseason with an emphasis on him being ready for the season opener. https://t.co/uNImxGiB7n

As a result, Diaby will miss the entire preseason as the team gets him ready to play the Washington Commanders in Week 1 of the regular season. High ankle sprains typically require a rehab and recovery time of 4-6 weeks.
For those Bucs fans that don’t follow Pewter Report on social media – specifically X – we wanted to provide our PewterReport.com readers with an update about Bucs outside linebacker Yaya Diaby, who injured his left ankle during the end of Thursday’s practice and had to be carted off the field.
Since the injury happened, Diaby has undergone X-rays that came back negative, which is a good sign. There was no sign of any fracture in the X-rays.
The Bucs medical staff also ruled out a possible Achilles tear, which is the initial fear whenever a player goes down and grabs his ankle.
Here are the other recent updates regarding Diaby’s ankle injury from Pewter Report’s X account.
Good news on the Yaya Diaby injury front. It is believed that Diaby DID NOT tear his Achilles in his left ankle. #Bucs are hopeful that X-rays are negative and that it could just be an ankle sprain or a bone bruise.
Hopefully disaster has been avoided.

Diaby has clearly been the most dominant Bucs defenders through the first week of training camp.

Bucs head coach Todd Bowles confirmed after practice that it’s an ankle injury for Yaya Diaby, but said the team doesn’t quite know the severity just yet. As Pewter Report’s Bailey Adams reported in Thursday’s Bucs Camp Insider, defensive lineman Logan Hall said after practice that he didn’t think the injury looked too bad, but Tampa Bay is certainly holding its collective breath as the team awaits more information on the injury.
Bucs general manager Jason Licht provided an optimistic update about Diaby’s injury during his afternoon press conference announcing Tristan Wirfs’ record contract extension.
“Right now we are hopeful that we avoided something serious,” Licht said. “We’ll get some more tests this afternoon, but right now there is some hope we did [avoid a serious injury]. I don’t have any other update than that. Yaya is a big part of our team. He’s a great guy. He’s another one of the high character players – great player.”
