Edge Rusher

Most impressive: Marquis Haynes | OLB | Ole Miss

For a guy who only weighs 230 pound, Haynes certainly packs a punch. Haynes had a lot of production in college as an edge rusher, despite being undersized. But, even beyond the 32 career sacks, Haynes had 12 career forced fumbles. That speaks to how strong he is, and that showed in Mobile. He can be a legit 3-4 edge rusher.

Most disappointing: Marcus Davenport | DE | UTSA

Davenport came into Mobile with sky high hype – hype that proved to be way too high. Davenport went up against lesser competition in his career at UTSA and for some reason people are saying he’s a Top 15 pick now. He didn’t show that at the Senior Bowl practices.

I like Davenport. I got the chance to meet him and he’s a really good kid. I think he’s a hard worker and that his best football is ahead of him. But, to act like he’s not going to have a learning curve and act like he’d be find as a first round pick who you can play on all three downs (meaning run support and pass rush) would be fooling yourself. He’s a Day 2 pick, and that’s fine, but I have to call it disappointing because I was told he was a Top 15 player.

THanks for the analysis Trevor. I watched some of the practices of the linemen and I was not impressed with what I saw from Davenport. I can not imagine he will be drafted in the top 10. The Bucs have the 7th pick in the first round and I am fairly convinced it will be one of these players: Barkley RB Penn State Chubb DE NC State Vea DT Washington Fitzpatrick DB Alabama James DB Florida State. All five are freak athletes with great size and speed for their positions and all have been extremely productive. Rate this item:Thumb UpThumb… Read more »

Great article Trevor! I just watched day 2 and day 3 video of OL vs DL and DT Justin Jones and DT BJ Hill of NC State seem to have dominated almost all OL they faced. I wouldn’t mind picking one of these guys in the mid to late rounds of the draft

Barkley at 7 if available. DE ‘s are not real great. Chubb gone by 7. Best instant upgrade. Barber not ready to take full load.

Having watched every UCF game I’ll tell you what Scott Frost said about Griffin. ” I don’t care if he has one hand, arm, or leg, you want this kid on your football team”. When a play needed to be made, he’d make it. He has great bend around the edge, and get’s under tackles pads. What makes him special as a pass rusher though is his closing speed. His burst in the closing 3 yards takes Q.B.’s by surprise. You’d think he’d miss tackles having one hand, but he uses that one arm of his as a hook runners… Read more »

The Game seemed to tell a different tale of Marcus Davenport. He recorded a sack on what I believe was the first 3rd down he rushed in the game, and continued with several QB hurries, and pressures, plus a scoop and score. He worked inside and outside and was disruptive at both positions. Davenport was so disruptive that he had to be doubled and chipped in the 2nd half, which gave other player opportunities, IMO which lead to the defensive dominance from the South team. Maybe he needs some instructions on technique for 1-on-1 drills, but Marcus Davenport is holding… Read more »

Is Jaylen Samuels what the Bucs wanted Dan Vitalie(sp?) to be? A more physical straight line/goal line runner than Charles Sims?
