Edge Rusher
Most impressive: Marquis Haynes | OLB | Ole Miss
For a guy who only weighs 230 pound, Haynes certainly packs a punch. Haynes had a lot of production in college as an edge rusher, despite being undersized. But, even beyond the 32 career sacks, Haynes had 12 career forced fumbles. That speaks to how strong he is, and that showed in Mobile. He can be a legit 3-4 edge rusher.
Most disappointing: Marcus Davenport | DE | UTSA
Davenport came into Mobile with sky high hype – hype that proved to be way too high. Davenport went up against lesser competition in his career at UTSA and for some reason people are saying he’s a Top 15 pick now. He didn’t show that at the Senior Bowl practices.
I like Davenport. I got the chance to meet him and he’s a really good kid. I think he’s a hard worker and that his best football is ahead of him. But, to act like he’s not going to have a learning curve and act like he’d be find as a first round pick who you can play on all three downs (meaning run support and pass rush) would be fooling yourself. He’s a Day 2 pick, and that’s fine, but I have to call it disappointing because I was told he was a Top 15 player.
